Hiya guys thanks for looking on post.
So I have a Montana 6 with front awning 2011 so just before tinted windows, we love this tent and they only reason I have to change tents is the Vermont xlp is all one tent and only one extra pole so pitching would be easier than pitching tent then the awning.

The negatives to changing is I would need a large pitch for the Vermont even on weekends where with the Montana I can leave off the awning!
Also I find the Montana can get chilly at night would a larger tent feel more chilly or just the same?

So my question is would you guys change or stick?
If I do go Vermont I could get a weekend tent :)

We had the Vermont before our Eden
We originally wanted the month 6p and extension but as you we saw the Vermont had a built in porch and only 1 more pole so we opted for the Vermont xlp
We didn't find it any cooler than any of our other tents as you can divide the sections off ie porch zipped up to give you a living space then the bed pods
The only reason we sold it was it was to much to pitch for a weekend so bought an airbeam for weekends and found the airbeam to be perfect for longer stays so ended up selling the Vermont and eternity and bought our Eden 600
Re pitch sizes
We never had a problem and never got charged any extra
When booking we always mentioned the size of tent and the site owners always found us a big enough pitch

It depends if you intend to continue camping in the UK or maybe dip your toe into going further afield.

The first pitch we got in France only the Montana would fit on comfortably, despite me booking a larger pitch, I had taken the awning with me and could have used it but we would have been right up against the small hedge that separated each pitch and have had no outside space to chill out in due to taking a large trailer and a big car.

For me, the attraction of getting the awning in the first place was the flexibility of having the choice of being able to use it or not as I didn't really need the extra space it would have been used more as an overflow of our living area.

So I'd stick with what you got, unless of course you fancy a change, then carry on you

Thanks we would like to go over to France at some point so this has given me something else to think about, I do like the flex ability of the Montana it's the hubby who's keen on having the space all in one x

In terms of colder or not they should be pretty much the same in absolute terms. Of course that discounts the psychological effects of the tent being bigger and thus feeling different, be it one way or the other. They are made of the same type of fabric so any difference is probably imagined rather than real.

Polycotton tents are better insulators and breathe so tend not to build up condensation, of course they cost more and weigh more as well.

As for changing from the Monty to the Vermont it would depend on whether you use the awning a lot or not. If it always goes up then it may be worth the change, if not then probably not, if you see what I mean.

We have the Vermont XLP and love it ... its a great tent.
However...... we have found that its too big for France really, we have been pitched 'hedge to hedge' in the vendee with very little outside space left to sit - not ideal after about 8.30am when the sun peeped up over the hedge and turned the tent into a sauna !

We are now looking for a smaller tent for France, and hopefully a polycotton one. So as mentioned above, if you are considering France you might want to stick with the Montana.

Thanks again, I think that maybe I will stick with Montana as I don't feel I will gain to much from a change, I think the only way forward from what we have now is a pollycotton :)
