Hi All

In my search for a cheap, flexible and useful way of providing some shelter for cooking/being outside in the rain, I have seen plenty of people mentioning the Vango Adventure Tarp. Now it is cheap and looks great.
My worry is, I would want it to fit to the front of out tent that is over 2 metres tall and provide enough room for cooking under. From the top the Montana has a sloping panoramic front that at the bottom stretches out about 1.5metre from where the tarp would fit too.

Has anyone used an Adventure tarp on one of the panoramic fronted Outwell tents?

The other idea I had was fixing it too the rain safe entrance on the side of the tent but that is pretty low and I am 6'3". Could I make that work?

I don't know the dimensions of the Vango Tarp, so I am going to (unhelpfully) suggest you get something else instead!

Consider one of these: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/tarp-hiking-shelter-dark-green-id_2363223.html

And buy the 2m poles from Go Outdoors, so you have four (the Tarp comes with two IIRC). You can then set it up (separate from the tent or on one of the entrances) how you like and should have plenty of standing room.

These are the dims...


With that 296 dim being the elasticated back edge (connected to your tent). That gives you a little over 200 from the tent to the front point. At ground level, however, your tent floor comes out 150, so only another half a metre gets protected by the tarp... and a pointed/tapered half a metre at that, as opposed to a rectangle of some sort.
My advise would be to look for something bigger, and rectangular. It's the tent's sloping fronts fault... not the tarp!

Of course, if you'd reconsider re the side door, then you could have this...



However, if you're looking at "a full kitchen" (Cooker/prep table/storage/dining table/shaded seating area etc) I'd suggest a 4m x 3m rectangle.
Much more practical...

Mucker, I've seen you're other responses to tarp information requests, alway very helpful.

I liked the adventure tarp for price and convenience of fitting die to the elasticised edge.

Any ideas where I can get a black rectangular tarp. Has to be black as the better half has decreed it needs to match the roof protector for our tent!

We also have the same problem with our Cleveland 6p and the sloping front, I went for the gelert tarp in grey in the end its pretty much the same shape as Mucker's vango but 4.4m by 4.4. I also have 2 extra poles to prop the front up.

I only brought the tarp a few weeks ago so have not tested how it all works together with the tent but hope it all goes together well.

Not off hand, no. I can recommend DD Tarps (From DD Hammocks) but they only come in brown, or a very dark (olive) green.
Just had a thought though... and this is a serious question, as I haven't seen them in the flesh... could the roof protectors not be used as a tarp, with the aid of additional poles of course? Are they not a flat rectangular sheet with eyelets/similar? Just a thought!

Ok, I got a black adventure tarp and had a quick try on our Montana 6p and as expected it doesn't come out very far from the front because of the sloping front. It does provide some nice shelter though and I could make it work attached the the porch.
I plan to put holes in the outer corners to enable a 3 pole setup. I'd like a pole of over two metres for the middle and ill use the two poles you get with the Montana for the sides. Then replace the short orange lines with some much longer yellow ones.

Any ideas Where can I get a 2m + pole?

Also, can anyone recommend an eyelet tool for creating the extra holes in the tarp?
