So we're going camping for the first time in September (in Southwold) and rather critically need to buy a tent!
However my boyfriend is 6ft6" (at 5ft1" I'm less of an issue!) and I'm concerned about him being comfy to sleep - I think we need to go a couple of berths up and try and find a tent we can sleep "sideways" in as a lot of the sleep compartments tend to be 215cm long when people are sleeping the "right way" round on the diagrams which only leaves him a couple of inches above his head and feet which I can't see being very fun for him.
We have very little else to go on - as its a first trip we don't want to be spending £500 but at the same time don't want it crashing down on our heads at 3am.
We really like the style of this tent:

But it has the height problem.
Can anyone point us towards some recommendations?

You are best going to have a look rsther than judging from the given sizes. Tent sides slope so If you're sleeping a bit off the ground you might have less space than you think. If youre on SIMs its less of an issue
If it were me, I'd generally stay away from domes and pyramids. Whilst fine at the apex, the sloping sides might be very restrictive. I'd go with a tunnel tent. Actually, I did go with a tunnel tent!
As for sleeping pods, that's a tad trickier as they all seem of a similar size. You could either go with no sleeping pods or with a tent that has dividers rather than pods. These are still a specific size, but in being only dividers, they aren't as physically restrictive.

A tunnel tent with metal poles giving a uniform height throughout would obviously be the better option. However, as suggested, you really need to have a look at some erected.
My tent, the Coleman Da Gama 6 has a head height of over 7.0' in the living area but the bedroom pods reduce that height quite substantially. I am only 5'8" and my head tends to touch the roof of the bedroom pods at the back.
Also, I was amazed that with the divider removed making two of the double bedrooms into one large one, an ordinary camp bed still only just fits in width ways and is a very tight fit length ways.
However, as also suggested, one double bedroom pod can be removed completely giving quite a large 'alcove' off the living area which could be used for sleeping.
Many tents are not quite as roomy as they may seem on advertising videos. The living area in my tent is also substantially smaller than advertised in a popular video. Best to see them erected and take a tape measure.
Hi. My late husband was also tall (at 6'3") and we had an Outwell Oakland XL which is a five berth. He was able to stand up in it without any problems, and it is large enough for stuff and a border collie, even in the rain!
We got a standard double air bed into the larger of the two bedrooms, and there appeared to be ample space for both head and feet (and you can always not close the door to feel less hemmed in). Or leave out the dividing door.
I'm selling it, as I can't put it up on my own. Tent, carpet, groundsheet and porch.
We have an outwell Nevada m and have always slept widthways across the bedroom pod, with the divider rolled up (so it's one big space). Plenty of room that way.
