Hi all,

Looking for a family (2 adults, 2 children of 8 and 11 years) weekend tent that is a good small size packed up but spacious and practical when up as well as being quick to put up. We have an Outwell Montana 6 for longer holidays but want something smaller and quicker for the weekend. This is a new market for me so was looking for recommendations.

The Vango Icarus 500 seems to fit the bill on paper and write ups are good. What do you think? Thanks.

We use a quechua 4.2 family pop up for weekends but also rely on a tarp to sit/ cook under - although it is a bit of a squeeze if I'm honest, although a lot depends on the weather.

A lot depends on how much comfort your after.

Although, if I had loads of spare cash I would go for a small/mid size (4+ man) inflatable tent for (supposedly) ease and speed of putting up/ down.

I use a trout lake 6 for weekends/short breaks, so quick to pitch with only 3 poles and you can keep the zipped in ground sheet and bedrooms still attached when packing.

Its not the lightest/smallest to pack, but with all the benefits of polycotton and 3 bedroom pods, just just great!

Current tent line-up (all outwell)
Yellowstone falls - for week or more
Clear lake - Flyball team entertainment
Cedar lake - not been used yet!
Trout lake 6 - short weekend trips
Trout Lake 4 - for just me and the dog

Hi thanks for your help. It is a great tent. Love Outwell but pricing puts it we in the realms of a main tent which I already have.

Just bought my first tent a Vango Icarus 500 off ebay and used it twice already. It was perfect for us, 2 adults and 2 children (age 8 and 5). Very easy to put up, I managed it myself. We removed the divider in the sleeping compartment and all slept in one room. The living space was ample but I would like to buy the porch for extra space but new they cost more than I paid for the whole tent!

My whole family enjoyed this tent so much so that we made a second trip within a few days. Noticed the tent is on special offer in go outdoors too.

Hope this helps

Outwell Nevada M is a good choice for weekends the Vango Icarus can be a bit of a pole breaker.
