Hello everyone :) I have been browsing for some time so it's about time I posted and asked for your help if possible.

We have been given a kyham xxl ridgidome and from what I have read is that it would be preferable to get a footprint so it covers the inner room as well as the outer rooms?

So I have been looking at footprints, and I'm confused....do I just get a groundsheet to put under it 6metre x 2.5 metres and should I get a carpet for the middle compartment for the tent to make it more comfy?

This is our first time camping with 2 x 3 year olds and a 6 year old and I don't know wether to run for the hills or be excited at this stage. I managed to get a cheap electric pitch at park holidays. Which leads onto my next question.

Ok we have electric hook up, I have bought a hook up lead....now I think we will only need it for lighting. Oh and was thinking of bringing the George foreman. Can any if you enlighten me to what else I could use it for. We have a gas camping stove and a cool box (non electric) I have one more blow up bed to buy and I think that's it? Will bring duvets and such.

A footprint covers the base of the whole tent - you don't need to buy the "proper" footprint groundsheet, a tarp from any good DIY store does the job just as well for half the price! Just make sure the the footprint is slightly smaller than the actual tent so that water doesn't pool between them.
A carpet is a personal thing and can make the living area more comfortable and adds an extra layer of insulation. Again you can buy "proper" tent carpets, but many people use plastic backed picnic rugs very successfully.

With regards to your electric hook up (EHU) you can use it for lighting, cooking, charging phones etc..., fridge or heater. Just remember to check with the site what the power supply to your pitch is - most are 10 or 16 amp but can be as low as 6 amp. This will obviously impact on what you can use at any one time.

Something that may be useful for you with having a young family is a portable loo for night time needs. You can use something basic like a bucket with a lid right up to proper chemical portable camping toilets.

Is it ok to cut the tarpaulin down to size, I shall cut it just under the current size and peg it down.

We haven't got much spare cash at the moment but will look into the toilet option now.

We're also on a budget and in the same boat - what did you do in the end? I'm also thinking of getting a cheap tarp from B&Q and then cutting it down (I'm guessing that's better than folding it down to size?!)

Yes get cheap tarp, find family member with a sewing machine hem it round the outside. Get Clingons attach to corners for pegging job done.

We used to have a ridgidome if grass was dry when we got there didn't bother with a tarp on floor the inners have there own anyhow nice having a grass carpet. If was wet when we arrived we just pegged down a 5 quid tarp
