I have been camping (mostly wild camping) with my 8 year old son for the past 2/3 months and was wondering Tent wise which would better.
I did have a 2 man North ridge torre but in morning porch was wet so took photo and video clip and went back to shop, where within the week they were telling me it was faulty of which i was quite glad, as it was pretty small.
So i decided to get the vango mirage 300 2014 model on sale for £119.99 which i thought was a good deal and on using it was a cracking tent.
So now to the question, I could have got a couple of Coleman backpacking tents for slightly cheaper and slightly lower spec and was wondering if someone knows if there is a clear answer or dependent on other variables?
Also Bought Halfords 3 man Osaki for £30 in sale so i could take my younger daughter of 6 car camping at sallochy.
Good tent crap poles and tighteners.
Great site btw

Hi
I would buy on quality, workmanship and aftersales rather than on fabric HH. Most reputable manufacturers apply a UV coating to their polyester tents fabrics nowadays anyway although not all tell you

Hello,
Thanks for reply and for letting me know that some makers treat their tents with uv protection but do not brag about it.
I will put it another way since i wouldn't know on quality etc as i have never had tents before.
I have Vango Mirage 300 5000hh tent, i could have bought the 2 tents below which are uv treated and 4000hh
Coleman Tatra 300 Semi Geodesic
Coleman Caucasus 300 Tunnel tent.
So would the vango if not been treated, degrade faster to the point that the treated 4000hh is the better bet down the road?
Not sure if i have expressed what i want to say or is a moot thought.
In theory yes the non treated fabric will degrade quicker than treated fabric however The UV coating on most tents is applied on the outside of the fabric and not part of it so will wear off over a period of time, how long depends on usage, so will need reapplying periodically. Grangers Fabsil and Nikwax SolarProof among others are after market products that contain UV inhibitors.

Different scenario, I got 2 tents the vango 5000hh and halfords osaki uv treated 3000hh.
If i took the 2 tents with me and pitched them whenever i went camping on an equal footing, what do you think would be the case then?
I am just asking because i do know these wont be the last tents i buy and want to be sure of these differences.
