Back again.
Still looking for the right tent and have come across an Albatros from Holland.
Communication has been superb with the seller, lots of questions and photos.
Tent is 20 yrs old and assures me all zips work as should,no damage or mildew one professional repair on roof by main pole and comes with two side panels and sun canopy.
Delivered to uk all in for £350.

Is this a good buy or should i leave alone?Am i better off going for a new Palamos or is the De Waard the Daddy.
Have had a scan around and the chap has had a couple of tents for sale on here very recently totalling 4 that i have seen, maybe be a trader not sure.

Any words of wisdom??
Although it is only £350 it is still a fair chunk of money, well to me it is anyway.

Regards.

The problem is, that until you see the tent, you won't know if it's a good un or a bad un.

The fact that the guy selling is a (quasi) trader would lead me to think the latter......

The key is how the canvas has been looked after and you won't know until it's unpacked.

If you want a De Waard I would wait and get something better. Register on the De Waard forum and try to get something being sold by a member on there. You would at least know it has been looked after properly and won't let you down on your first outing.

Do you need a four person tent? Someone is selling an Albatros Junior in the UK at the minute which is fine for 2 people.

Good luck whatever you decide...

After numerous adverts trawled and viewed and asked questions blah blah on the Marktplaats site regarding 4 different De Waard tents (as in models like lepelaar, gannet spoonbill etc etc) from about 9 different sellers we found a 2004 Albatros, one owner from new with all original bags, pegs, mallet and instructions 3 side screens, sun canopy, inner tent and tent tidy with a claimed 3 years use 2 weeks each year only, then young family arrived so they moved on to static vans.17

Long story tried to cut short, got a reduction in price of 125 euros after haggling and had it delivered all for £649.17

Had all the bits out at the weekend to check the truth, big gulp, clammy hands and all that with taking a gamble and all is good in the world.17

Only minor dissapointment is a small hole in one of the side screens at the bottom just above the mud wall the size of a small tent peg, like it was damaged in transit by being thrown around(very heavy).17

No mould or mildew,no discolouring of tent that i can tell, just needs a proper sweep out.17

Two questions....

The sun canopy has a mud wall on the bottom, stupid question how is this fitted to the tent or does this not fit as i thought a sun canopy should?Instructions are of the tent only?

Secondly, the small hole how can i repair it or should i leave alone?

Shall try and put pics up of the poles and side screens etc but as for the tent it's a no go this time of year17

Regards.

Sharky.

Here are some pictures of the side screen, sun canopy and inner tent with a tent tidy.
The third picture shows the small hole in one of the 3 side screens.

The weather was not looking too good so all i risked was to unfold it quickly to check for damage and see what was what.

Regards.

Sharky.

I love the stripes

You seem very pleased with your purchase and that must be a relief as buying preloved can be a bit uncertain. I look forward to seeing pics of the Albatross in full flight.
