Hi. I'm new to camping and have been given an old dome tent. Not sure of the make. It's about 150cm high with a small porch. I'm struggling to put it up by myself and my daughter is not really old enough to help much. I can just about get the pins into the holes in the poles but wondered if I unthreaded the poles and chop about 5mm off one section of each pole using proper workshop tools and then retreaded whether this would impact the integrity of the tent as it would make it much easier for me to pitch as I my joints have a tendency to strain easily. I suspect since the poles are around 3metres long this will make little difference to the tent but a huge difference to me but I'd value some input before I kill the tent. Any thoughts welcome.
Thank you

Its worth a try if poles are that difficult to locate. If its a nylon dome tent that has had a lot of use it may not be that good, sunshine eventually degrades nylon. If the material feels quite crispy then it could be on its last legs anyway. So do whatever you need to make it usable.
Hi Billy x. Thank you very much for your advice. I think it's polyester I'm not sure - it's certainly not crispy at the moment it feels smooth and seems water proof when I put the hose pipe on it. I'll watch out for it going crispy though. Think your 100% right it makes sense to make it useable rather than struggle and hurt myself in the worst case scenario we've always got the car to sit in if it fails in bad weather.
