Wouldn't affect any warranty but only you can decide .... If you can see obvious faults on seams then that's different. Again, I'm only saying what I do on any tent I use.

Appreciate that Gary.. I don't think everyone else who's got the OR is lucky, its just those of us who are affected that are unlucky.

My theory on OR has always been that they have been making awnings for many years, which are basically three sided tents!! If they do that right, then there is no real reason why their tents should fail. Its just one of those things!

All credit to OR for jumping on the issue as quick as they have (from my perspective) and I'm sure it'll be resolved to a satisfactory end. Hubby and I are going to take the chance and get another one as we chose the OR for a reason, and that reason is still the same.. however, we will be taking your advice Gary and waterproofing on the first pitch!

I even have a section at the top of both of my websites called "Weathering your tent" and this is the content.

Weathering...Polyester tents can suffer from excessive amounts of condensation and this can sometimes be reduced by opening and using the vents in the tent, keeping wet clothing etc out of the tent, polyester tents do not need to be weathered. Customers may need to use some seam sealant or a waterproofing spray on polyester tents as it is impossible to make every seam 100% fully waterproof. Poly cotton tents can also suffer from a build up of condensation but it will be far less than a tent made of a polyester fabric.

Poly cotton tents do need to be weathered, this is a cycle of soaking the tent and allowing it to fully dry out, this allows the fibres to swell and knit together, seams need this cycle even more than the main tent fabric. This cycle normally only need to be done once but depending on the weather this may take a couple of cycles. If a poly cotton tent is used for the first time in rain and has not been pre weathered and the rain is medium to heavy or prolonged expect a poly cotton tent to allow water through the fabric, a mist may form on the inside of the tent, once the weathering cycle has been completed a good poly cotton tent will be highly water resistant but please note, no tent can be made to be 100% fully waterproof, this is the nature of camping. Seams are more prone to water ingress and may need a spay of a tent waterproofing (we prefer the Storm brand) to make the seams more water resistant, do not be concerned as this is typical. Ideally the weathering process should be done before the tent is used for a holiday. Poly cotton tents will never be as waterproof as a polyester tent but the advantages of the more comfortable living environment far outweigh the small amount of water that may enter the tent.

G Cross MD

Ps...Below has been taken from the Outwell website.

"When the Smart Air Poles (tubes) are inflated they can ‘stretch’ the needle holes making them much more vulnerable to water ingress. To alleviate this potential issue we recommend that, prior to use in the rain, all the Air Pole seams are sprayed on the outside of the tent with Outwell Waterguard, or a propriety make of waterproof spray suitable for polycotton fabrics – this can be done at the campsite when you first arrive if need be. This treatment is fully advisable for all Outwell polycotton Smart Air Tents and will not affect the weathering process or the waterproof and breathable properties of the fabric when in use."

I know for a fact what we had was not condensation.. we sat and watched the rain coming down the window and seeping in at the window seam and into the tent!

This was at 3am in the morning when my husband woke up to go to the loo only to find there was a 'stream' of water on the tent floor.

Been one of the unfortunate people that had the big problems with the OR 6xt leaking in through the windows and also in through the air beam,s. And after just spending £1000+ on the tent and the wind breaker that goes with the tent.I can not believe I then have to spend more money on waterproofing a brand new expensive tent on not only it,s first outing, but would not have to waterproofing the tent for the first year of camping. And if the stitching on the air beams do stretch and cause leaks then surely outdoor revolution or any tent manufacturing company that do air beams should solve this problem before putting them out on sale for us camper's to spend all our money on them to have these problems to then have the messing about sorting it all out

That,s just my thoughts on it anyway

Yesterday we got a refund for our faulty XT tent which is good. However we really like the design of the xt and have found another local supplier who has stock.
We are very tempted despite the problems to buy another.
What's are your thoughts?

Go for it
Any tent has problems and you bought this tent for a reason
We put ours yesterday in heavy rain and had no problems with water ingress
So for us the only problem we've had is a pin hole in one of the tubes that looked like the zip had caught it when they zipped the tube into the sleeve it took nearly 2 days to deflate fully

We got a full refund for our 6.0XT yesterday.. hubby called them to see what was going on and they admitted that the sealing tape around the windows had been missed off, hence the prolific leaking.

We went and picked up an Illusion 800 last night.. feel like a huge weight has been lifted now, absolutely loved the 6.0XT, but the stress it has caused us, it's not worth it.

Sorry to hear all the problems people are having and tbh this thread is a little concerning. We got this tent at Easter as we loved the look of it and looks like the ideal replacement for our wonderful (but tired looking) Hartford XXL. On the first pitch we just checked around for obvious faults, everything looked fine. We didn't spray the tent with a hose and now regretting this to some extent - we intend putting it up again this weekend so I will do this, maybe a weekend away somewhere before our summer hols is also in order. Anyway, I can understand the taped seams may be leaking (and personally if it is more than a little leak here and there then I would not do the seam sealant route), but how do people think the water is ingressing at the base of the beams ? (is this just collection from the window leaks ?). Also, did anyone with a faulty one take a note of the serial number on the box ?. I really do hope we have a good one, if not we can always use the old faithful if any issues drag on.

On one of the other threads about the 6xt tent, people were wondering whether the ingress of water was through the ground sheet due to the weight of the beam. In our case we did have pools of water around the base of each beam, but also water running down the inside. I still think it's worth giving the tent another go as it ticks a lot of boxes for our requirements. We have been informed that our replacement will be available soon when supplies arrive in the UK.

Cjh, I too am a little anxious about our new 6.0xt. We've done the test pitch, and hosed it down with no evident problems, but I'm not sure that's comparable with spending time in the northern weather in the tent. I even dreamed last night that it filled with water! We're away for 3 nights next week to test it properly. It's not normal to hope for rain on a camping trip! I'm really hopeful it's just one faulty batch and ours will be fine. It's like reviews of anything, people feel inclined to leave a review if they've had a terrible product or an outstanding product, people in the middle don't always get round to it! Good luck with yours.

The dealer that i bought my 6.0 from told me (after i informed him of this issue, re XT) that a certain batch of the xt's were missing the tape around the clear roof panels (Friday afternoon assembly in china he said!). And all that's needed is some clear seem tape apparently. We had heavy rain on my 6.0 last weekend and no issues at all, it has 1 roof panel to. Hope this helps!
