Hi,

Myself and OH currently have a Coleman Coastline 4 tent which we have used for the past 2 years, however on our last 2 trips I've had tent envy!

I loved our Coleman at first as it was an upgrade from a small Eurohike tent, however on our past 2 trips I've found a few issues with the tent which has lead me to look at others.

Looking around online I've been really drawn to the Outwell Montana models, either 4E or 5P. They seem to tick all the boxes for me.

I went to a local camping shop on Monday which have Outwell tents on display and asked the sales rep if they had the particular models on display. He replied saying that they don't stock those particular models as they are very overpriced for what you get.

Does anyone own either of these tents and do they feel they are worth the money spent?

If you do think they are overpriced, what do you feel gives you value for money, but with the same features as 4E or 5P?

Thanks for replies guys

P.S - I really want to make sure we get the right tent which ticks 99% of boxes as it's taken me a while to persuade OH we need an upgrade! As long as he's dry and warm he's not fussed about fly screen's and bigger windows

What are the boxes that need to be ticked?

I'm assuming things like Sewn In Groundsheet, stand up height....what else? Space? Colour? Pack size? (ie do you have a big boot in your car.

Outwell make some very nice tents but you do pay quite a bit for the name.

Kampa tents are as good a quality and very good value, Vango do some good tents as well. Best advice is look at a few and try and keep branding out of mind, I had my heart set on a Montana 6p until I saw the Kampa Croyde 6 in the flesh, got the Croyde 6 including footprint and carpet for £30 less than just the Montana 6p on its own.

boxes to be ticked are..

sewn in ground sheet
head height
2 doors (ours only currently has one) preferably with some sort of roof for rain
fly screen protectors over doors
more windows (ours are small and high so when sat in tent you can't see out)
and good ventilation (ours was covered in condensation last weekend)

not too bothered about pack size, we have a citron dispatch which we pack to the brim!

fairly spacious - theres usually only 2 of us but we use one bedroom for sleeping & the other for storage..

I cant seen to find anything that has all of that, but then maybe im being brand biased!

thanks for your help!

I have a Vango Samara 600 that has everything you have asked for above, but it has 3 doors (including one with a small canopy). Plenty of light from the big windows and good ventilation. You can also have the large main bedroom pod split into two with the divider provided or leave it as one big bedroom, and there is a separate bedroom that can be removed completely if desired or used for storage.

Hi Campernic,

We're Portsmouth way so would probably a bit further..

Thanks for all your help guys, I have been looking around online ignoring brand labels to see what else comes up.

I'm still very swayed by the Outwell Montana's but have also seen the Kampa Hayling 4 (not sure if front door has fly mesh) & the Vango Skye V 400?

I think a bigger than a 5 man tent would be too big for us, also I'd have more space to fill it with stuff haha!

We need to find somewhere that has the particular models we are looking for on display..

The Kampas are very light and airy inside due to the big windows. Our Croyde 6 has mesh in the two side doors but not the front door, I think the Hayling is the same.

Another good feature of the Kampa is the built in canopy at the front, you can also get a vestibule to enclose this space making it even more versatile, we use ours as the kitchen.

Why can't they let you 'design' your own tent with optional extra's?!

I do like the porch feature on the Kampa's, however the mesh on all doors is attracting me to the Montana's.

It would be great if the Kampa had a full mesh door at the front!

I need to stop looking now so I don't find anymore..

You can, from Karsten, but we are talking big ££££ not £!

I'm waiting till the kids have all left home, then I will try to persuade OH to get one!
