Hello. We've just bought a Corado 4 second hand and its not got its footprint; not sure the previous owner even knew it should have one. My question is, do we need one? The sewn in groundsheet looks pretty fine to me, if slightly thinner than our Khyam one that is being replaced.
Obviously the footprint is no longer for sale so we'd have to make one from a tarp or try to buy one second hand.
Thank you in advance! :)

Hi, we have the same tent and footprint bought second hand as a package, the tent is fine without a footprint but would recommend the use of a footprint or tarp slightly smaller than overall tent for a few reasons.
It helps to protect the groundsheet from stones, etc under the tent, it provides another layer between yourself and the ground, you can position the tent easily, but mainly keeps the bottom of the tent clean, meaning you can pack it away easily and chuck a dirty footprint in a bin bag to clean at home if necessary without having to try and clean the groundsheet before packing away. It's a decent size tent, hope you enjoy it!!

That's a bit contradictory, innit? You accuse him of "not even knowing it should have one", then go on to ask if you need one!

The answer is, no, you don't need one, as it has a sewn in groundsheet.
The advice/recommendation, however, from the vast majority of folk on here, and I include myself in that majority, is that it is (extremely) wise to have one, for all the reasons Mrs Stin... erm, the above poster, states.

The previous owner may not have been aware of such an option, or maybe even decided he didn't want to bother with one, but either way, it wasn't the case that the tent he sold you "Should have had a footprint with it." It is not an integral part of the tent, merely an OPTIONAL extra.

Oh... and a tarp/any waterproof groundsheet from builders merchant etc will be just fine... just make sure it ends up slightly smaller than the perimeter of the tent base, so it doesn't protrude anywhere, where the rain can land on it (which may just run under your tent, but over the said footprint, and no doubt remain as a trapped puddle, as there is no escape!)

Thanks for the replies, we're going to buy a tarp as suggested. Mucker1884 I hadn't realised that I was sitting a grammar exam, my sincere apologies, but whilst we're being pedantic, the previous owner was a woman.
