Dear all
I am new to this forum and very excited about going camping this summer. I have camped a lot on my own over the years whilst walking but now I am a single mum with a 3 year old so i need a bigger tent. However I am majorly confused as there are so many models on the market.
My criteria are
1) I must be able to pitch alone
2) it needs to be a 3 or 4 man
3) I need a tunnel tent with separate living area so my daughter can sleep whilst I read etc (well I am hopeful!)
4) my budget is £250 and I am happy to buy second hand as long as lightly used.

So any advice? I am thinking of an Outwel, Vango or Kampa but last night saw that Millets have a very good deal for a berghaus air beam for £250.

Thanks so much
Laura

vango icarus 500. we have it for 3 of us and i use it when i take ds (he`s 8) camping without hubby. its a 3 pole tunnel, many ladies pitch it solo like me. has a nice living area and sleeping area. the sleeping area can be left as 1 huge pod or use the room divider to make 2 pods. we love ours. has inscect mesh doors too. there is an air version too.

Another vote for the Vango Icarus 500. I'm a noob to camping and if I can erect it by myself ANYONE can

Go outdoors had a deal on (don't know if they still do) and i picked mine up for £180. Great for a 5 manner and decent brand.

If you want the latest model, i believe it's the Vango Iris 500 now.

I've also got the Iris 500. I've only pitched it with 2 of us, but I think I could manage it on my own. The poles were really stiff the first time so it was hard to get the pins in. However, it's been much easier since then. That's the only slightly tricky bit. After that it's all pegging out really.

The living area is a good size, so you can store stuff and sit in it if you need to escape the rain. We don't use the divider for the bedroom as we have a campbed and there are only 2 of us. It means we have a good sized bedroom that we can keep our clothes bag in.

Hi all
Thanks for feedback. I think the Iris is maybe a little bigger than we need. I looked at the dimensions and I really think we only need a 3/4 man one. Will go to camping shop and look though.
Thanks
Laura

Another vote for the Icarus/ Iris. I'm a more mature lady who pitches solo. I use it when camping alone or when I have my granddaughter with me. It might look a little big but that's a blessing if the weather isn't so good. Plenty of room for the little one to play and space to put a table up if you need it. I have the front canopy and used that when I was away for a week in May with my granddaughter. Still seemed to have stuff everywhere

I am in a similar situation to the OP. I have an Outwell Nevada M which is great for my family outings but I think I would find it difficult to pitch by myself - although I would get it done eventually.

I've been looking for a smaller tent that I could use by myself and that's easy to pitch, but comfortable to stay in.

I've been thinking the Outwell Rockwell 3 could be a good option for this - if I can get one at a knock down price.

It might be worth checking this model out.

The Berghaus would be a doddle for you to pitch alone, I have the Air 8 and as a little experiment I asked my wife to put it up.......now this is a huge tent and apart from the guys the whole thing was up in 12 minutes!!!

I imagine the smaller versions would be even quicker!

Hope this helps a little?

Kam about to put my Vango Nevis 400 on EBay, along with footprint groundsheet and carpet. It is a three pole tunnel tent but made of much higher specifications, with alloy poles rather than fibreglass and s lighter stronger fabric. It makes it light enough for me to easily manage it on my own and much more sturdy owing to the materials. It will be collection only ( from S Yorks) so if that is something you would be interested in, let me know and I shall post a link to the advert here when I have listed it.
