Well into our second season with this tent. In the early days of last season, we had knees in all of the beams and after heavy rain the back beam would collapse. Thought this was due to the use of the side extension and over tight guy ropes. Took the tent back to Attwoolls and even though the back beam was flatter and always have a sink / depression prior to the back beam - they considered this normal when test pitched.
Through last season, worked the knees out of the beams (except for the back one.)
The tent has survived two very wet week weeks so far this year and no collapse of the back beam - so we thought we had cured the issue.
Just come back from a long weekend at the Star at Alton, taking the kids to Alton towers (never seen it so empty).
The Star camping site is a great location if you don't mind the slope of the field.
Therefore tent pitched down the slope with the door at the lowest point (so you can sleep head up).
In the Park Monday and we had a cloud burst for 5 mins in the afternoon - thought no more about it as we were camping minus the side awning.
Got back to the camp site (post buying bounce back tickets for the next day), to find the back beam had collapsed.
No problem - just pop back up (we thought).
Un zipped the front door to be met with water almost up to the zip in the SIG.
We think the back beam must have collapsed with the weight of water on the roof and this had found its way into the mesh (under the storm flap of the middle pod) and flowed through the middle pod and down through the tent. Carpet wet in an upside down T shape.
Wanted to go home there and then, but disappointment of the kids and the though of a very wet put away put us off.
Thankfully we always have the electrics on a low table and in a weather proof extension box, so no water ingress into the electrics.
Two buckets of water later, soaked carpet draped over both cars (while we went to the Pub) and new bedding for the middle pod (we all had to share what bedding we had) - with the heater on all night.
Packed away last night - all dry and we survived.
Has anyone else suffered this are we the only ones, if so what do you recommend?

We had the same beam buckle under the weight of a heavy downpour
Think it's just a downside to this type of inflatable
We didn't get any water ingress though as we were with the tent at time but the sound of the rain or pooled water running in through the rear vent sounds very possible
We just put a bit more pressure in the rear beam and all was fine

Paul+Kate, already at 8psi - have written to Vango - so lets see what they say.
At FForest Fields at the end of the month - so know we will have a flat pitch and have time to play with the back beam again.
Steady rain - we have had days of which without an issue, but we do seem to have a pocket / flat spot in front of the rear beam, if we had an arch in the roof shape, then the water should run off before a large pool forms.
Maybe just freak weather in the Stoke area....

Can't say I noticed a flat spot
We also inflated the rear to 8psi and all the others around 7
When ours buckled we were on a flat pitch in Cornwall

Saying that it does look like the rear beam isn't as arched as the others

Is this a problem with all inflatables? We've recently bought one and are about to go on our first ever trip soon.

I'm wondering if we should of gone for the normal pole version instead.

Sprite, the good news is:- the tent has survived many days of constant rain - no issue. This was a cloud burst that caused the issue.
Normal pole tents - the poles break, where as the air beam can be popped back up without damage.
I'm sure the exaggerated slope was partially to blame- to allow the breathing vent to be exposed.
When the beam has collapsed before, we never experienced this failure. I've once woke in the middle of the night very close to the ceiling of the pod. This might be a design issue with the Eden as I and Paul+Kate have noticed that the back beam is not as arched allowing run off.
Would I swap to a poled tent - no, especially when using an electric pump.

We'd never return to a polled tent
So much easier with an inflatable

We have an inflatable, which withstood those awful storms in July, we were in France tho, no problem at all with the beams.

Like P & K say we would never go back to blooming poles either

update:-
Have been working through the issue with Vango customer services.
Upon advice removed the air beam from the outer sleeve and inflated to 8psi - no issue. However when putting back into the sleeve the mis shape re appeared. It would appear that the rear beam had an inherent weakness.
Took photo's and a new beam arrived in the post this morning FOC.
All I can say is I hope the issue is now resolved, but thank you to David at Vango customer service for his help and support. Good customer service is out there.

we have a mango vogue and depending on pitch and downpour we can get a little sag in poles. With canvas the weight is significant making it more likely.

It's seem that the Vango air beam polycoton technology is not much good. During rain our tent just collapses. We've done everything suggested by Vango, but nothing works. This tent really is no good and to make matters worse when we contacted Vango we got a standard default reply with nothing of an apology- See below. We tried the nice way but now we want a refund as there's no way we want this tent- We have young children and we couldn't leave them in the tent alone. If this tent collapse on them it is a danger as it is so heavy, especially when rain collects on-top.

Hi Karen

Can you please let me have a managers email. I appreciate the offer of a refund, but after the experience outlined we expected at least an apology regarding this situation, but there has been no acknowledgement at all. I'm really not the sort to complain but this tent has ruined our holiday which was obvious from the below.

Kind regards

Matt

Hi Matt

As you have recently purchased the tent and are unhappy with the quality I have to advise you to return it to the retailer purchased it from, they can arrange a repair, replacement or refund for you under warranty.

Hi Karen.

Thanks for the response.
We've tried this but is hasn't helped. In fact I think we've tried everything possible! We are still in Italy and during rain we can't leave the tent as it collapses and everything gets wet. It's a nightmare during the night as we are on shifts to prevent the tent from collapsing on our children.

We've noticed the construction of the tent is very poor with threads hanging out and pieces of material sewed under fabric in random places. The velcro around the bottom of the door is not sewn on properly and in many places the stitching has completely missed the trim. Not what you expect from at tent that cost over £1000.

It's had chance to weather in but still leaks. I've been a camper my whole life but never experienced anything like this. After 3 weeks of analysing and trying rectify the problems it is clear there is something fundamentally wrong with this tent. It does not sit straight and bows and collects the rain. The polycoton gets so heavy there's no chance of it holding up the tent during rain.

The bag fell apart on collection which is another frustration and we've been waiting since June for another.

To be honest it has ruined our holiday. We saved and purchased this tent in May 2015 as we wanted something that would be suitable for the future, but after 3 weeks away it has already proved not worthy.

We've got a newborn expected next spring and this tent is not suitable. It collapse during wind as well as rain and we could not possibly leave a baby in this tent.

We hope you understand our frustration and have realised our only option is to request a refund. We really loved the layout/ design and wanted this tent to work for us, but it is obvious from the above it is no good. If you need evidence of the following we are planning to post this on YouTube on our return, which highlights all of these issues. This then gives you opportunity to see for yourself.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt

Thanks for contacting Vango Customer Services,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you, this is a very busy time of year for us and we are trying hard to get back to everyone as quickly as possible.

It could be something as simple as not enough air in the beams or a twist in the tube, which could create a kink and make the beams susceptible to collapsing.

Please deflate the beam and remove from the tent, re inflate and pressure to 8 PSI (remove the black pressure valve if required). When inflated out of the tent, check for twists in inner tube, a bend in the beam indicates some kind of issue with the tube.

If there is an issue with the tube then opening the sleeve and ensure the tube is flat inside the sleeve and is inserted all the way to the sleeve end and folded back if necessary.

Re- inflate the tube / beam, and make sure the end guyliunes are pulling the end beams apart. (i.e. away from the centre of the tent)

Please let me know how you get on.

Regards
Karen

Has the 600XL only got 3 airbeams?

I just bought an Eden 500 and test pitched it in the garden and all seemed fine, of course the real test will be when we go camping next year and it rains.

That only has 3 airbeams, but they seem evenly spaced, unlike the picture of the 600XL above.

Perhaps it was bad design and really the 600XL should have had 4 beams instead of 3?

Edit - Just seen it has 4 airbeams, guess it's not that then.

Yes the Eden 600 XL has four beams.
Ever since our first pitch I struggled with knees in the beams.
Took it back to where we got it from and told everything was normal.
Two seasons down the road - experience tells me that the inner tubes were twisted inside the sleeves giving rise to weak points / flat spots where water could hang and collect making everything much heavier.
New inner tube for the rear beam, with careful installation by ourselves (test pitch only) would appear to have solved the issue.
Personally I can only praise Vango customer service - the sad part was when we initially queried this as camping newbies we were told this was normal, by the so called experts at a reputable camping shop (we even pitched the tent on their field)...

We've just bought ours 10 day's ago and used it for two weekends. Haven't had any rain on it yet so I can't comment on the rear beams collapsing but it does have what appears to be the usual kink in the front beam. Probably caused by the weight of the canopy. I did see that Vango have upgraded their airbeams for next season, I'm thinking maybe they should develop a sturdier tube that could be inflated to a higher PSI to cure this problem. Still loving the tent though!
