I bought one of the 4 man ones a couple of years ago and I love it! I have had some brilliant weekend camps with my three kids. It is so easy to throw up and (providing you have watched the video a few times) packing it away is also really fast. We found that using the back porch for clothes storage and the front for food and cooking gear we had enough space inside to sleep the four of us comfortably and also for playing board games etc on rainy days. I used a picnic blanket laid out under the front canopy and added a tarp for more shelter and covered area for cooking which gave us cooking and eating space.
I wouldn't want to use it for camps longer than a few days due to not having standing room (I am 5'10") but for short trips without an extra adult to help me pitch the bigger tent it rocks!
It was especially fab when I drove a wee punto as I was able to fit in everything for a weekend plus the three kids. It was quite amusing to see the faces of other campers when I rolled up in the punto and had tent pitched and everything set up within a few minutes. My kids were off playing in the park while I made a cuppa as they were still trying to thread poles into sleeves ;)
I haven't tested it in extreme weather conditions but it stood up well to the usual wet and windy weather that is to be expected camping in the NE of Scotland. If you are lucky enough to have hot, sunny days, the two entrances allow a lovely breeze through to stop everything getting too stifling. I have been pleased with the quality and overall thought that has obviously gone into the design and the upgrades to the newer models look ace.
If I can dig out my old photos and figure out how to upload them I should write a proper review!
Not being able to stand up is one of my concerns as I'm also 5'10. Can you sit down on a camping chair inside?
I'm also a little concerned about packing it away as I've just tried my 4 man quechua which packs up similar. I'd forgotten how big it was to do the left arm over right trick, and the cinch is a bit bigger?
Trying to find a easy to pitch alone tent that offers standing room and isn't hard to put away is hard. I don't like pole tents so that narrows down my choice.
I have Quechua 4.2 pop up as well as base seconds full but I'm finding that all that wrestling with them is tiring
I've never actually tried a chair inside it as I've always had the kids with me when I've used it so we have set up sim mats and blankets and gone for low level living in the tent. I think you could probably fit sitting in a chair inside but as I've never tried I can't be sure.
I found packing it up to be quite easy and not too much of a stretch or wrestle but I've never attempted any of the other pop ups you mention to compare.
If you don't want to deal with poles you are going to be limited and the range of tents with standing room but very easy pitching seems to be quite small. We are totally smitten with our new Madjai (large touareg style bell) and considering a 3m bell for a pup tent, weekend without kids camping (hahaha. Fat chance!!!) or solo parent and kid camps. Bells are super easy to pitch and we love canvas but the madjai is heavy for me to manage alone.
The gelert cabana was the other tent I considered when buying the cinch. I liked the standing room, bedroom pods and funky design at a similar price range to the cinch. In the end the cinch won me over and I'm happy with my choice for the quality of the tent, ease of pitching and just enough space for our needs.
