can anyone recommend a tent high enough to stand up in which weighs less than 8 kilos or so? It's just for me so a 2-3 person one would do. I'm getting a bit old for crawling around :)

thanks

A Sunncamp Silhouette 200 plus fits your requirements for standing room, 2 berths and cost (mine cost £139) but is a bit overweight at 11kg.

A Gelert Cabana 2 fits all requirements but they are a bit hard to find nowadays.

If you want tall, check out the Nemo Wagontop 4P. Not particularly cheap, although impressively high on headroom.

Just lately, I've been looking at a Outwell Arizona L which is a 2 metre high dome tent, but has a reputation for poor rain protection to the main entrance.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Outwell-Arizona-L/474

Overall though, I'd be happy with anything offering 1.5 metre as I'd be concerned anything much taller would be too susceptible to wind stability issues as well as a lot of extra weight for a marginal improvement in headspace.

Can't comment on the tent itself, but it appears
Homebase have it at half the price Argos are showing?

If you google Vango Zeal 500 it will show a couple of companies selling this tent, reduced to £89.99.
195cm height at front and 8kg in weight, not abig porch area but should be fine for one person. Easy to erect as only two poles.
My son bought one last year for £124.99.

I like the sound of the Vaude - but the Zeal has a porch which would be nice especially after this weekend when it rained so much. Maybe if I sell my vango banshee 200 and halo 300 I could put the money towards the Vaude

The Trespass tent was 1/2 price last week

I love my Vango Kalu -standing room throughout, easy to pitch alone, very sturdy, high spec, nice windows, mosquito screens, etc etc - a bit over your budget, here (I paid about £130 from Millets in the sale) and 12kg, so heavier - but it is a damn good tent.
http://www.outbacktrading.co.uk/product/vango-kalu-v-400-tent-2015/

I used to use one of the bigger Decathlon popups - a 2SecondsXL1111, but got fed up with stooping, as I am 5'7" .
The Kalu is also very quick to pitch.

I am surprised they are not more popular as a small weekend tent - not a huge amount of living space, but loads for one person.

I think that Vango Zeal at £89.99 is just a perfect bargain........ If I was after a weekend tent, I think I would go for it!

This is an issue I also had, they seem to be the hen's teeth of the camping world, light enough, small enough pack, plus height enough???? a very rare beast.
I need to be able to stand up in the tent, and have limited carrying capability.
I bought the Zeal 500 a couple of years ago, first out was fine but later I found it difficult to pitch alone in wind (could just be me; 5'3" and a bit old).
I've bitten the proverbial bullet and spent more this time on a Wild Country Zephyros 3 Living, easy pitch, high enough, light enough. I left a review so won't ramble on further.

Still trying to get the packing right.

that Zephyros does look good - I'd just decided to ask for money towards the Vaude for christmas and birthday - now you've given me more choice! I must say I like to have a porch to dump wet clothes etc though.....

The one thing about the Vaude is that it's inner first pitching, meaning that the flysheet has to be thrown over the top, and it's 2m high.

I've just got this tent and have only pitched it in the garden so far but I think that, and threading the roof pole, could be a slight challenge. So saying, I managed okay.

Loads of height and usable space in the Vaude with fairly upright walls. I'm really looking forward to using it.

Video clip

...and some photos to give you an idea:
