TL:DR - Is there an 'end of season' sale on tents? If so when is the best time to buy? I've seen a few sites with a small amount of money off but tents seem to go out of stock before they are on sale at knockdown prices.
Long version:
I've camped a fair bit over the past 10 years, but it's mainly been at Festivals, so the tents I've had have tended to be lighter dome tents (Currently own a Vango Berkley 500)
But we were camping in August for a weekend, and decided that we needed a larger tent for convenience, rainy days etc.
I started looking at Inflatable tents as a 'quick pitch' option, and first was looking at the Decathlon Quecha 6.3 XL air as the price seemed really reasonable for £399.99.
However, then I got to looking at the other options, specifically Outwell and Kampa, which are more than twice the price but I'm looking for a tent that we can use regularly that will last me a good few years.
Price is an issue though so I don't really have £1000 to put down on a tent.
I've been keeping an eye on various online sites hoping for a slashing of prices to clear stock, but haven't seen any huge discounts yet. Is there a 'best' time to buy? Do they have good Autumn/Winter sales?
We won't need it until next Spring.

This is the time of year when those sales will be happening, so there really is nothing else to advise other than to do what you are already doing and keep looking out for sales online. The is the risk that popular models will be sold out already, but if you have a list of preferred models and ones you would be happy to settle for, that should help you to hopefully bag your desired tent at a lower price.
You could also keep an eye on local ads or even ebay for second hand 'used once' bargains. Many people spend a fortune on brand new camping gear and then discover, after a trip or two, that camping isn't for them and decide to sell all their gear and go back to package holidays.
Tent manufacturers tend to alter their designs fairly regularly...even if it's just a minor update or name change as they feel it sells more tents. Camping retailers therefore have to clear all their old stock to make way for the new, so from now through to about February is the time to find the bargains.
Easter is considered by many to be the start of the new camping season so prices will start rocketing just prior to then.
Now (from mid August, onward) is traditionally the time but this year, more than any other, things seems to be a bit different.
I suspect the retailers have taken less stock on and now all the good ones are gone. So I would think if you find the one you want next year, don't wait for it to be reduced. You'll just have to go for it.

I think there are a couple of approaches, but they require a bit of effort:
1. Have a list of specific items you really want to pick up and Google them on a daily basis to check for price cuts.
2. Have a list of websites that sell camping gear and check them every couple of days to see what products are being discounted.
I've managed to pick up a couple of bargains so far, including a Mammut sleeping bag I've had my eye on (discounted from £110 to £85) and an Outwell carpet that fits the bedroom of my Vango tent (discounted from £55 to £35). £45 saved in total isn't bad considering I'd have had to buy these items anyway.
I have a bunch of other things I'd like to get on discount, including a roll top table with adjustable legs and a couple of Lifeventure XL SoftFibre towels :-). I'll no doubt pick up some non-essential items along the way too, using the second method above!
------------- 2019 trips booked so far:
Easter - Red Shoot, New Forest
May - Secret Campsite, Sussex
I find the best time to buy anything is when you don't necessarily want it. As soon as you WANT something it becomes harder to find at the price you want to pay , when you NEED something it's generally rare / expensive or both.
Not really sure if there are many genuine sales nowadays & my guess is that most tent manufacturers have a decent grasp on the demand for their "better" tents. Our local Winfield store was virtually finished with their tent displays by mid August.
------------- The cheap tat was much better quality when i was young.
I wanted a Vango Halo 300 as a quick overnighter and the ability to dry it over a dining room table and the selling point for me was the head height and the two doors. There were other small Vangos (and other brands too) in the 'category' but I wasn't remotely interested.
Millets kept reducing their prices, sometimes by half but it was everything in the range except the Vango Halo. I watched all the retailers like a hawk but the tent didn't come down from £150, even last years model.
In June Cotswold Outdoors brought it down to £114 and I was in like a bullet. I still paid more than I wanted to, I was hoping to get it down about the £100 mark. But I guess this is a popular tent for a reason.
I got my vango halo 300 for about £90 on the millets website around last October/November -but I don't like it. It's all a ploy to keep us looking for "the perfect tent"
I'm now looking for the vaude campo 5 or the wild country zephyros 3 on offer........
