Am considering purchasing a tent off ebay, but have concerns about warranty.
Anyone ever bought 2nd hand and needed a warranty repair? I can ask the seller if they would be willing to help if there were issues (I believe you have to have proof of purchase) but they wouldn't exactly have to honour that promise.

If you are buying off ebay & pay by paypal then you can get a refund from seller through ebay if tent arrives faulty or damaged anyway.
Tents are usually warrantied by supplying retailer, not manufacturer & any dispute is always with supplying retailer so if a fault developed later & you did have original new purchase receipt from seller then you could take it back I suppose, but even if tent has had little or no use, say 10mnths after purchase new it will be treated as a 10mnth old tent & it might be difficult to prove whether manufacturer fault or, say storm damage.
Let's clear this up, if you buy a tent from a private seller it has no warranty with the original retailer or manufacturer even if it is unused and within the original warranty period. You may even have proof of purchase from the original retailer but you didn't buy it from the retailer.
The manufacturer may help as may the original retailer but that would be up to them.

What I was mostly pointing out was that provided purchase receipt was produced retailer would not know whether it was the original buyer or not. Main problem with taking a tent back, particularly after some time is proving a manufacturer fault & not storm damage/user abuse.
But if I was using it next season for the first time having spent nearly £1000 on a second hand tent, and an Airbeam blew up or there was a leak, it would be nice to be able to go back to Vango to get replacement parts.

Of course any brand would help out i'm sure but there may well be costs involved to anyone buying the second hand product even if the original owner never used the tent and even if it was only a few months old etc.
The issue is your contract is always with the person you buy the product from.
So in law etc is a "Vango warranty - Transferable" no but you never know what help a retailer or brand might give.

Polycotton tent needs no weathering or proofing, should be waterproof straight out of box. If by floorpan you mean footprint as it is called to go underneath tent to protect underside of groundsheet, this can be as cheap as a throwaway plastic dustsheet from B&Q but if you have a good lawn with no mud then a test pitch won't hurt it.
Polycotton I believe does need weathering to allow the fibres to expand but as far as I'm aware shouldn't be proofed as this will hinder the fabrics ability to breathe. I have heard that Outwell do some kind of seam sealer.
