Hi there people :)

Im going to put our new Montana 6p tent up tomorrow for the first time and wondered which way did people here find the best way from there experience. I found a pitching video here and this doesnt look like a bad way to do it.

Just wondered if anyone else had another way?

Cheers, Chris

We followed Outwell's pitching instructions the first few times we used our Montana 6, and always struggled to get it right. Tried the Cross Camping method and it was so much easier

Thanks, i might try this method. outwell actually have 2 pitching videos on there youtube channel, the other one is here and i think thats more like the cross camping method, peg all the corners out first then put the poles in and left it up as you go along.

The second video (pegging the corners) is the newest way Outwell now advise...
This video is worth watching as well

My Hi Gear Oasis 6 is similar layout & size to the Montana and I put it up in breezy conditions on my own.
I peg 6 pegs - all corners plus either side half way of the tent length.

Then making sure side & front doors are all open ... I put in the roof pole over the front door and insert a leg & put in the pin at the bottom.
The run around to other side & insert the leg & pin.
Then I just work towards the back doing same with all poles & it's up in no time really.
These large tunnel tents with all poled identical make pitching this style of tent so easy and as in me of my other posts, I had this big tent up by myself quicker than my Concorde Airbeam.
Good luck!

when we had a Montana 6 we initially used the official method to pitch the tent, but it's heavier than you think when you physically have to lift the flysheet and poles together and an absolute nightmare if it's a bit windy...the cross camping method was much easier...

Hi there guys,

Thanks for the replys, we took the tent away this weekend to Winterset lakes near wakefield, (nice little short stay site) and we used the method of pegging the corners out and inseerting the poles one by one.

Hail shower halfway through slowed us down a bit and it took us about an hour to finish, i didnt think that was too bad for a first attempt. The only snag we had was the second pole back, the ones over the main living adrea, the flysheet was very tight on the seam which made getting the ring into the bottom of the pole difficult, even when i 'broke' the pole and tried that method. i think it night have been because there was a bit of uneaven ground on the pitch. but we got there and had 2 nights in it, and all went well. so an overall success id say!

CJUK
Try pegging rear then attaching poles on ground the ring & pin is much easier then lift all together and walk each section out we find that the best way for ring & pin we do the same with the extension & when we take it down do every thing in reverse

Ah cool Davy, I think i saw an outwell video like that, but couldnt remeber if they put the pins in the poles too when it was down on the ground. I think i may have posted a link to that video, and tbh i think it might be the way i try it next time as we restled with that one pole for at least 20mins or more trying to get the pin in! im guesinng, you might be able to say yes or no, that the lift it all together method might be awkward if its windy?
Might just be swings and roundabouts as they say though :)

We find it extremely difficult each time to,get the pins in. It's a wonder the tent doesn't rip. So,rigid no moment at all. Find it harped to,get the black canvas over the middle, pole, even to.

Think, couple,of weeks ago we put the poles in one by one and sort of lay on floor to,do,that bit lifter once had rather than lift altogether. We tried it that way couple of weeks before last week and the tent was just to heavy.

Thanks so much
Rach :)
