Hi.
First post here and my english isn`t really up for the task =)

Been looking for a new family camping tent for a while. My heart was set for the Outwell Montana 6P (2016). After browsing the internet for weeks i stumbled across some threads about Obelisk tents.
Looked around at their website and saw the Familia 600 and the Amazons 600. I`m now struggling in the choice between those two both good looking tents.

The familia 6 has the "mesh wall" covering the canopy(?) that looks lovely.
The canopy is also slightly deeper - 2000mm compared to Amazonas 1500.
But is it possible to "guy out" the window blinds to allow some ventilation in bad weather?

That`s mainly the only thing that makes me lean towards the amazonas instead of the familia 6. The amazonas has ventilation points that can be used even if the rain is pouring down. One more thing - the groundsheet of the amazons looks to be more "heavy duty" is this a factor to take into account?

Neither of those two tents has a perfect fit carpet (inside) but the Kampa Crouyde 6 carpet should be possible to us?

Also - Weight or bulk isn`t a problem as we`ll be using our Volvo Xc70 II with a roof box for transportation. We intend to stay several days at one site so pitching time isn't to take into consideration.

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

Your English is probably better than mine!

Both these tents look great. I am no expert but if it were my choice I'd probably go for the Familia - mainly because it is a simpler design.

Regarding ventilation, condensation won't be as much of a problem with a polycotton tent as it would with a polyester one. Plus (unless there is driving rain in exactly the wrong direction) the canopy will allow you to have the door open a bit without any rain coming in.

We bought a Familia 6 last year and have been very happy with it. Here's a thread I made about it back then.

The 2m deep canopy is great as a cooking and dining area, I'm not sure 1.5m would be enough. Only issue with the size is it will sag a bit no matter how well you peg it out. It could use a pole or two running along the top to keep it tight.

I don't remember there being eyes on the blinds to guy them out, but we didn't have any ventilation issues.

We used our old Icarus 500 carpet. Way too small, but it covers most of the usable area.

We have a Palamos 6 with a 1.5m porch; not really useful as anything more than a boot shelter. I'd go for the Familia 6 in your situation. Other than that, Obilink tents are great value for money.

Sorry for late answer! I appreciate your advice as this is our first family tent. Been hiking a lot by myself in northern Sweden - Abisko, Kebnekaise etc. But this is somehow more diffucult as I have to think about the children and a wife that never slept in a tent!

I found a great deal on a Outwell Nevada MP with front awning, footprint and 3-layer carpet. I reccon that this setup will give about the same space as the Familia? Main tent will have about 250cm x 340cm living space and the awning will add about the same. We wont get the full mesh wall but on the other hand all three of the doors has full meshpanel, there are several ventilation points wich can be closed/opened.
The awning dont have a SIG or ZIG so that will be well ventilated - perfect for cooking and as a porch.
Also this gives us the benefit of modularity - only main tent or main tent with awning.
Maybe i shoot my self in the foot by ordering this but the total cost was lower then the familia 6 and from a local dealer.

Any thoughts about my choice?

The Nevada tents have been available for some years so it is a tried and tested design. And I think you are right that tent plus an extension gives you a range of choices. I think you have made a good decision!
