Hi again folks.
Im looking for a bit of advise from anyone that knows the halfords atago 5man tent.

We are using an old easy camp tent for when its just the one adult and the 2 kids for a night or 2 away but the living area is cramped and its starting to show its age so needs upgraging.
I was looking round for something to replace it and noticed the urban escape atago. Its slightly larger than i wanted but also cheaper at the moment so seriously thinking about it. The reviews here are also pretty good.
Anyone know how easy it would he for an adult to do on their own? Itll be a fair weather tent for short breaks away with the kids when one of us has a few days off work.
We use a kalahari elite when its 2+2 but if one of us cant go its way to big and akward

We currently have this tent (although we are about to upgrade to a Kampa Croyde). It's an ok tent and I think it's really good value for money. However I think you would really struggle to put it up by yourself, we found it tricky with two adults and if it's windy it would be really hard. They do do an inflatable version of the tent which you could do with one person quite easily but it is obviously more money.

With the kalahari i could probably do most of it on my own if the weather was good but would struggle to clip in the poles. Im thinking(hoping) the Atago would he the same, I wouldnt mind asking a passer by to help with it as it would literally be just a minute or 2 if the rest could be done. The older kid is 7 so able to help a small bit. It will just be for when the forecast is good and we have a few days off so pitching in a gale wont be an issue. Do ya reckon it would be ok or would i be better off getting a smaller and easier tent? My budget is about €200/£150 and i can get the Atago for €160 so thats why i was so keen on it.

Have had one off these and was happy with it. It's a good size tent think it is reasonable to put up ( did struggle one but it was very windy so think most people would struggle) did withstand the wind pretty well, did have a tiny bit a water come in by the window but it's was when you put it up in windy conditions so the side wasn't completely straight so could the reason for a bit coming in but nothing that would put me off the tent. Do think the ventilation is not the best as it's in with the windows and the curtains are on the outside so it's a bit off running in and out to sort it. The other thing you need to know is that halfords have stopped doing the carpet and ground sheet for it don't know why. Only reason we sold ours was that we bought air tent.

I have the footprint and carpet for the kalahari but not bothered about one for this tent. A picnic rug will do the job inside.
Still torn about what to do. Anyone got any suggestions on a smaller 4/5 man tent(for 3 people) with a bit of living space for about £150/160? Not looking for anything fancy. 1500/2000mm head will do for what we need.

Don't know if it might be an option but I got the Higear Enigma 5 for similar trips with my lad and it's been fantastic. It's down to £150 at Go Outdoors at the moment. £250 for the bundle with carpet, footprint and canopy. It's easy to put up solo, takes me 20 minutes or so, and I don't rush. The canopy makes it for me, gives loads more space.

Its a tent i spotted and thought about. The size seems about as good as ill get but i dont like the shape of the front door. Itll be something for good weather mainly but any kind of a shower and the inside is gonna get wet when you open the door to go in or out. Ive seen this on a few tents and its poor design. If it had a smaller side door i think i would have ordered it already.
Have you used it in the rain? How did it work out?

Hi Mousey,
I've got to point out I'm a total novice, and it's our first tent. I bought it last year after my lad pestered me relentlessly to go camping (so glad he did - I love it). So I can't really compare it with other makes etc. I know what you mean about the door, but every time we've been I've had the canopy up so its not been an issue. We mainly go last minute when we know the weather will be good, but we got caught in a four hour thunder storm with torrential rain one time and not a drop got in. Not sure what would have happened without the canopy to cover the door though. We've also had winds of over 40mph and it stood up great. As a quick to pitch tent for last minute getaways it's been perfect for us. To me the quality seems spot on, but as I say I don't know how it compares with other makes.

The canopy wont be an option as it would be too big for what i want with it on and i could just use my bigger tent then.
My other one is a hi gear also, im delighted with it. Good quality at a very good price. Id happily buy another one.

After a lot of thought i ended up buying this tent.
I got it 2 weeks ago in an online 2hour sale for the axa discount price of €162(in the Rep. of Ireland)
Fantastic tent for the price, probably decent value even at the original price of €250 if you compare specs and sizes of similar tents.
My wife is away in it at the moment with the 2 kids as im working and she sent a few pics back. Plenty of space and good height for standing up in.
We have 3 camp beds in it and theres room for a 4th(just). 5 beds wouldnt fit but a lot of 5 man tents struggle with 4 of them as their (obviously) wider and higher than mattresses.
The living are has a set of table/chairs on one side and a pop up kitchen unit on the other and theres plenty of space to move around.
It was put up by one adult and a 7yo "helping". Erecting it was my main worry before buying due to the size and it was fine. She said it was made more difficult as their high up and had a good breeze blowing but still manageable. Should be simple enough on a calmer day.
Its only been up twice, once for a test pitch in the garden and been used for a few nights and we're delighted we bought it.
Not a long term review by any means but first impressions are 10/10 for anyone looking for a good affordable and spacious 3/4 man tent. Itll sleep 5 no probs, just not on camp beds.
