We've got a bell tent which I love as it is so easy to pitch, a doddle on my own.

Thinking of adding a Dutch pyramid to our collection and can't afford a DeWaard etc....so looking at the Palaomos 6 but I am daunted by the pitching - DK168 gives very comprehensive instructions but can anyone comment on how it compares pitching-wise to a bell tent?   I realise it will take 2 of us and that it won't be as easy as the bell...

It's a lovely tent but has over 50 pegging points, we sold our Palamos and bought the Alaska, much easier to pitch and nicer touches. I asked Esvo to make a tarp extension for the front of the Alaska which they have (for less than £100).
I love Pyramids as you get the ambience of a Bell but the practicality of full height doors and a straight wall. I picked up a De Waard direct from Holland, it was used for 2 weekends and I got it less than half of the new price so there are bargains.

We have a cabanon Guadeloupe, picked up via eBay for £280 last year. The pitching style is very similar to the a bell tent, with a centre pole and a door frame. The number of pegging out points is key, as pointed out above. ESVO are a longstanding Dutch make, with great quality at better prices than the De Waard range.

We also have a 3m bell for short breaks. In comparing the two styles, the other advantages of a pyramid are the windows and built in awning, and a built in curtain for separating the bedroom from the living area.

The same dilema we faced a few years back. Loved the look of the palomas but as already stated, just too many pegging points for my liking. Opted for the 5 metre bell and never regretted the decision especialy now DW has added a couple of windows. The Alaska was not on the market at the time,If it had been would we now own one instead of the Bell? I think we might. But with all the space in a 5m Bell compared to the 4m Bell, Im happy with what we have.

We debated backwards and forwards endlessly about whether to get the 4 or 5 metre bell tent. We went for 4 in the end because I wanted a tent that I could lift/carry and pitch easily on my own if going away with the kids solo for a couple of night. I was worried the 5 metre would be too much for me and chickened out. The 4 metre is perfect for that reason but...a little more space for longer trips would be nice....

I've only recently discovered the wonderful world of pyramids and I think they are absolutely lovely...do we need one? No of course we don't but a second hand one, just to try, can't hurt can it?

Especially now as you've sung the praises of the Alaska which admittedly I had discounted out of hand...I would also love to see pics of the Esvo custom-tarp Jayner...
