Hello all
Last year we bought a replacement for our Kyham Montreal, looking at reviews we found an Outwell Vermont LP at an end of season sale. We used it for the first time over the May bank holiday and have found it to be the coldest tent I have ever had. The problem seems to be the front "porch/kitchen" area, the lower part of the tent is not connected to the groundsheet in anyway, and with the lightness of the fabric, we found it constantly lifting in a breeze. Admitably it was not particularly good weather with rain and wind, but that's why we like the larger tents to allow room and comfort in our English weather.
Question that I'm asking, has anyone found this problem and have you found a way to get over it. We are looking at the possibility of sewing heavy duty Velcro along the bottom, Eight meters in length has anyone tried this. Also we are looking at the possibility of buying the front extension or awning, the concerns with this is will this cut down the lifting of the tent walls and has anyone had problems with pitch side as it will increase the overall length of the tent.
Any advice will be welcome. Ian

I take it you are referring to the bathtub groundsheet? We have a Vermont XLP which I assume is similar (2013) but haven't had this problem, yes it's not attached except for toggles are all the flaps outside the porch area pegged down to stop wind blowing in?
Hello, thanks for the reply, yes it is a bathtub groundsheet and it was attached via the toggles and the outside flaps were also pegged down where possible, also we had windbreakers and the car outside, but the flaps were still lifting in the wind and it was like having our own storm inside the tent. Admitably we were one of only Three tents left on the site due to the weather and we had a very large field directly in front, so the wind had no obstacles. The previous Kyham was fully enclosed and we have sat through some really bad weather including Three broken poles during a very windy storm and was very comfortable.
Unfortunately the first outing with the new Outwell didn't go that well, it hasn't put us off using it, just want to make it a bit more comfortable, as having a fan heater running and additional clothing seems a bit OTT for end of May.
