Hello everyone

I am new here and my only experience with camping is the odd night here and there and festivals in my 3 man pop up tent with only a sleeping bag.

I am looking for some advice regarding a family tent it will be for 2 adults and 2 young boys aged 5 and 2. We are hoping to get away most weekends and hopefully into Europe for a week or 2 as we live near Dover. We will also be purchasing a small 4 berth campervan in the next 6 months.

I have about a grand to spend but would also like to get the full kit (if possible) with this i.e. beds etc..

I was looking at the Outwell brand but would welcome all your experienced advice regarding brands, poles or blow up, and the essentials we will need to take

You won't go wrong with outwell, look at pollycotton if you are planing on using a lot. They're stay warmer when it's cold, and cooler when it's hot.
We have the outwell Newgate 6, for me and the we and our little girl who is 3 n half. Just right for us as its sold as a 6 birth. Always try and g 2 more berths than you need so really you need to be looking at a 5/6 birth.
Have you thought about buying second hand. There is some bargain bearlake 6 s about at the moment, pollycotton and one of the get outwell tents produced imo.

I was thinking a 6 berth but had not even considered 2nd hand as I would assume they wouldn't be that great condition

If you're up for using a tent with poles there are real bargains to be had second-hand as people move to inflatables. Having said that you'll also get a lot more tent for your money new if you go with poles.
Our 'big tent' is an Outwell Montana 4 (there are three of us) and it's given fantastic service.

It seems to be heresy on here but I'm not convinced that coton/polycotton is worth the extra weight/money. Our Outwell is polyester and we've never had a problem with noise/condensation/temp control. I reckon a good polyester will beat a cheap-as-possible canvas/polycotton.

I don't mind poles as I cant envisage putting it up in the pouring rain as hopefully we will have a camper and still got my 3 man pop up tent to store anything and wait for the weather to clear. I cant imagine poles being that difficult these days ?

Ours is poles not air beam. When we was looking for a new tent, we looked at air beams in the same display as the Newgate, the air tents just didn't look as good quality or no where close in the feel inside the tent.
We have both said we would not go back to polyester tents again after having pollycotton. They are heavier and bulkier to transport and put up by we think the pros out way the cons massively.
If you Are on Facebook join the outwell selling page as sme very good bargains pop up on there all the the. There is a bear lake 6 on here today for £350. With carpet and ground sheet! Bargain.

I'm writing this sat in our Newgate 6 tent, loving another camping trip!
