Hi all, hoping I can pick some brains and get some advice from the experienced campers here on what you would go for.

First of a little bit of info about us. We are first time campers and I have finally managed to get my wife to agree to some camping trips (Hooray). We are a family of 5, with three daughters aged 17, 13 and 9. (My eldest isn't that bothered about camping so can't see her always joining us lol)

My budget is around the £500-£550, but I could push another £50 if I had too.

I've done a little research on the two tents and have seen some good reviews on the Vango, can't find any on the outwell but hear they are great tents generally.

Now I can't decide for two reasons:

Vango I can get a all in package with footprint and carpet for my budget. My only concern being Fibreglass poles, I hear different experiences with poles but generally steel are considered better in high winds?

Outwell, looks fantastic, has steel poles, but for my money I only get the tent. Sure I could buy some tarpaulin for a footprint and get the carpet at the later date.....

Argggggggg I just can't decide, what would you guys and gals go for? Or are there other tents out there I'm missing at that price that are worth a look?

Many Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan

I have the Orava 600 and put a review in the reviews section (if you haven't seen it already).

There is a steal polled version of it, the Vango Neva 600 and I saw on another post the Cross Camping sell it for the same price as the Orava. This seems a great deal and I probably would have considered this had I known pre purchase.

It's a great tent but if I knew I would still need to invest in a roofbox I might have gone for the Kampa Croyde Classic, sold by Obelink, to benefit from polycotton. Despite the ventilation in the Orava it was still hot inside in daytime July sun...but I guess most tents are.

As a newbie, I would go for the all-in package with fibre-glass poles, without a doubt.

... However, 4 years down the line from being that very same newbie, who started with that very similar package type deal, I would go for the steel poled tent-only option... without a doubt!
