Hi
Does anyone know if the Vango Evoque 600 airbeam tent (2015 purchase) has a breathable groundsheet - we have the footprint too???
Thanks
Maz

No, no tent with a sewn in groundsheet has a breathable groundsheet

We have the Evoque and we're more than happy with it, terrific tent, easy to pitch, stable and bags of room inside for the three of us.

With regards to breathable ground sheets as Gary commented no tent has one and for good reason really, the cost of applying an waterproof breathable coating or membrane would push up the price of a tent considerably. Also I think such a concept would defy the laws of physics inside a large tent, though if I remember rightly WL Gore tried to make a tent out of their Gore Tex material but proved to be a costly and ineffective venture.

Breathable groundsheets allow air, sunlight and rainwater through, to allow the grass to breath, and stay alive. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a one way valve, so whatever can go through to the grass, can also return FROM the grass. Depending on which type of breathable groundsheet you have, this could mean all or some of the following can come up from ground to the groundsheet surface, (where you stand/lay sleeping etc), to varying degrees:
Morning dew.
Rainwater (Either sodden ground, flooding, or teeming down a sloped pitch?).
Worms and casts.
The grass itself.
Mud.
Dust (Dry earth).
A mole's reproductive organs.
And probably a million other undesirables.

This is why any tent that comes with a SIG (Sewn in Groundsheet) or ZIG (Zipped in Groundsheet) will come with a sealed, waterproof one (or at least it should be!) not a breathable one.

The same applies to tent footprints... no point placing a breathable footprint/groundsheet down, if you are plonking a sealed tent on top.

Breathable groundsheets are, of course, ideal in awnings, be they attached to a tent, caravan, or any other type of unit.

If any camp site refers to "Breathable groundsheets only", this could mean one of three things:

1/ They are referring to awnings only.
2/ They do not allow tent's with a SIG or ZIG.
3/ They don't know their ar5e from their elbow!

There are, of course, some tents that have no groundsheets whatsoever, to allow folk to sleep on the grass with a tent over their heads, but they are only used by folk whose only childhood entertainment was to build a den in the back yard with a clothes horse and grandma's candlewick bedspread, or people who have leather patches on the elbows of their cardigan.
FACT!

Yours sincerely
Some bloke on t'internet.
