I camped in my youth with family and friends many years ago. Recently we have been away in our own folding camper for the last few years. But the children are growing and we outgrew and sold our 4 berth camper.
So now we are looking for an economical second hand tent probably off eBay, as we have a very small budget (£100 ish) to try out camping. We have airbeds and sleeping bags, tables and chairs etc, already. Literally just need a tent. :)
Can anyone give me ideas of brands/models I should look for or avoid?
If money was no object we would like the following....of course we know that with our budget we won't get most of these.
1. Sewn in groundsheet
2. 3 bedroom pods and main space
3. Berth for 2 adults & 4 growing kids plus stuff.
4. Place for porti loo
5. Full height living area
6. Reasonable Hydrostatic Head Level as we will be in the wet uk with sealed seams.
7. It would be fantastic if it could be pitched by one adult with 10 yo child's help (holding poles) as this would allow me to take the kids away by myself sometimes. But I am guessing big tents will need two adults minimum to pitch ?
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Have looked at some fab 10 & 12 berth tents on ebay but worried they will need double pitches !
Also are ebay and local noticeboards the cheapest way to find a tent ?
Thanks for reading this far :)

Heres some ideas for you...probably best to go for a tunnel tent which wouldnt be impossible to erect with the help of your youngster.I would think a vis-a-vis style would suit you best--that is bedrooms at each end and a livng area in the middle.Personally I would look for an 8-berth tent to sleep 6 and you would probably have 4 bedrooms. Most decently branded tents will have a full sewn-in groundsheet and a decent hh of 3000 or over.If you had a 4th bedroom perhaps you could use this as a toilet room or better still find a cheap toilet tent to go outside. A couple of tents that would fit are Vango Vista 800 and Sunncamp shadow 800.I have owned both of these tents at some time and paid around your budget for decent 2nd hand models.Try searching on facebook for a local camping page as well as ebay,gumtree.pre-loved etc. There are loads of tents for sale out there that have been hardly used...camping isnt for eveybody! Both tents I have mentioned fit on a standard pitch (its usually a club site that measures pitch sizes) Dont discount looking at new tents as it is coming to the end of the2016 season and dealers are looking to clear out ready for the 2017 stock.
If buying 2nd hand--any genuine camper would have no problem in showing you the tent pitched up--there is usually a park or field nearby if the garden isnt big enough.
Remember--the biggest killer of tents(after storms and hurricanes etc)is exposure to sunlight--so that tent that has only been used once--for 10 weeks solid in the south of france--will be past its sell-by date!!!
The other tent that has been used for 2 weekends in the 2 years since it was bought and always packed away dry----thats the one you want

Shame you are not in Ireland. I am selling my Pescara.
8 man tent. Small porch for portaloo. Large porch for kitchen. Bought brand new in 2015. Used for 2 nights in Ireland and 10 nights in Brittany. Stored bone dry.
It is now too big for our needs.

It weighs about 60 kilos with poles and pegs so a tad too expensive to courier.
If you see one near you, it would be perfect for your needs.
