We have a Quechua 6.3XL air tent which we love, especially for its huge living space and ease of pitching. But the bag is huge and weighs 45kg. It's also difficult to dry out when we get home unless we pitch it again on our drive (after moving both cars off).

This bank holiday weekend we thought we'd try sleeping in our Mazda Bongo and 'living' in and outside our Quechua shelter (which has zippable sides). It was ok but a pain to have to keep reconfiguring the can for daytime/nighttime.

So I'm wondering about a nice 4 man weekend tent. Preferably one which has an optional porch/extension. Price isn't so much of an issue as I have months to find deals or second hand options.

We bought the Vango Calder 500 last summer to add to our collection of tents.
It met our criteria of 2 bedrooms (comfortably sleeping 4 but designed for 5), reasonable sized porch area and a sun canopy to enable outdoor cooking (but can be rolled up if not needed).
It's my favourite tent so far, not so heavy and comes with an oversized bag to help pack it away with ease.
It's so easy to pitch I put it up myself, alone, this weekend in 15mins.
In short, it's perfect for weekends or longer trips alike.
(I don't work for Vango or any tent retailer, I'm just a camping addict) :-)

Have you considered any "non plastic" tents, such as Robens, their Fairbanks or Klondike tents?
BCT Task Force 4, Cebanon or Esvo? These latter ones especially, tend to be a little more pricey than synthetics....or perhaps a smaller canvas bell tent???
