Hi,

Now that the kids have gone to Uni we've decided to downsize, we're looking for a 3 berth with a porch area,
must have sig and we must be able to get out of the bedroom without climbing over each other .

Any recommendations ?

Outwell Birdland 3 would fit the bill for you. If you stretch to a 4-man tent it opens up a much more varied choice .Kampa hayling 4 as an example. 3 berth tents tend to be more of a lightweight and short stay tent whereas 4-berth are more likely to be more camping biased. Remember--you get what you pay for!

have a look at the Zempire Hubble - a bit unusual but excellent spec - 150D fabric - so longer lasting than most tents in this category

If you fancy airbeam then the Zempire Aerodome 1.
150D fabric, nice porch area, good head height and living space.

something a bit different from the mainstream Vango + Outwell offerings but just as good as ( in some cases better ) ...

worth having a look at even if you just follow the crowds in the end!

Most mainstream manufacturers seem to have stopped producing a decent sized 3 berth tent with sewn in groundsheet and with stand up height.
Ideal for a couple of even solo campers.

Vango used to do 2-3 models but dropped them from their range,as did others.
The Outwell Birdland mentioned is a good tent as is the recommendation to possibly look at the smaller 4 berth tents.

Take a look at the De Waard tents. We bought one 2 years ago, had to visit Gouda to collect from an agent, lovely tent, warm and dry with a fantastic SIG that you peg out first and then dump the canvas on top, zip it together and then erect the tent, expensive but if your a long term camper well worth the money, comes with a years warranty but they mean 365 days of assured camping, very pleased with our Tunnel tent, the other advantage is as one unzips it from the SIG all the individual bags are lighter, groundsheet IN one, canvas in another, poles in third bag and zIP onto front extension in the forth, makes it lighter while loading and being in reasonable sized bags easier to load and store away, just take a look on the web, may not be for you but for us is fantastic.

Hello and thanks for your replies, I'm not sure what happened but I did reply to your posts about 2 weeks ago , I must of forgotten to press the 'post reply' button ... must be old age :(

Anyway, I'm making a shortlist, we have 9 tents at the moment ranging from a 2 birth (coffin) to a 9 birth ( bigger than my house ) the 9 birth is without doubt the most comfortable and warmest, however it takes 2 of us over an hour to set up properly and most camp sites charge extra for the pitch...... and it's way too big for the 2 of us :)

Hopefully get something sorted by the end of the month...

Just an update, still haven't bought a tent yet however we're looking at 3 options... the Vango Iris 500, the Vango Calder 500 and the Coleman Galileo 5, yes I know they are 5 birth not 3

I was set on getting the Iris (£200) but for £5 more the Calder is the same tent but has a built-in canopy... and there is a extension available if needed for longer stays (or my adult children decide to want to come along) I'm guessing that the canopy on the Calder can be rolled back to fit the extension.

The Galileo is similar in size but the reviews are not as good, however I can get it at £250 including the extension and carpet which is a bit of a bargain I think.

Going to 'Go Outdoors' this morning to look at the Vango Icarus which is the same size as the Iris and Calder, if suitable we will most likely order something today.

I have the Vango Calder 400 tent for solo camping. I am able to erect it on my own.
Fully sewn in groundsheet and 185cm standing height.

The front sun canopy can be rolled right back out of the way to fit a full canopy. I have the Vango Loire 400 enclosed extension/canopy. The Calder 400 and Loire 400 tents are the same size.

Like the OP I also have too many tents.

Hi We have just upgraded to the Cabanon Barbados which is great for 3 of us, just had a first trip out and it's the easiest and quickest tent to pitch. I should imagine that the smaller version - the Cabanon Guadaloupe would be great for two. Here's UKcampsite reviews:
