Hello All,

I am looking to replace our weekend tent which is currently a Hi-Gear Gobi Elite 4. We purchased it 3 years ago as a weekend tent and it’s been very good. Have only used it about 4 times and it was perfect when there was 4 of us.

We now have a 4 month old so area family of 5. The living area is really not big enough and the setup tables and chairs is a bit too much for a weekend.

I have been thinking of replacing it with a Robens Kiowa tipi and simply taking pillows, sheepskins and beanbags for a cosier feel (basically less crap to fold away for a weekend quick camp).

As this only really has 2 poles it should take less time to put up (that my logic anyway). We would get the inners so children can’t get out when put to bed, although this limits the space.

Does anyone have this tent and can recommend it as such for a basic weekend tent for a family of 5? We would not spend too much time in it as out main objective is to be out exploring.

Many thanks

We purchased the Kiowa last year, we used it for weekends as well as longer camping trips. There are a quite a few guy ropes so yes quick to get into the upright position but if you want all the guy ropes in can take a bit longer than you first think. You also have to remember to cross over the opening at the top or keep an eye on it if it is windy that it doesn't open as it is difficult to shut once up, there may be a knack to keep in place! There are only 2 of us so we don't have the inner tent but have no less stuff for weekend or 2 weeks!

I love this tent and other campers are always interested to look at it. Packing away is easy as the bag is very roomy. Happy to answer any questions.

Looking forward to using our 'nearly new' 2nd hand Kiowa but not plucked up the courage yet. The tent it's supposed to be 'replacing' still has plenty of life left in it & is strong, stable & easy to pitch & dry being polyester. We've had one weekend in galeforce winds & rain where we were glad we'd left it at home!   Weighs a ton dry - hate to think about it wet.   It's getting left behind this weekend too as we're sticking to the familiar. I've a weekend in June I may use it but outside of that it could just be for the main holidays.

We got it so mrs could have a woodburner in winter. As winter trips are only weekends until we both retire I guess we'll to bite the bullet & use it soon. I appreciate it's fairly light compared to some of the polycotton & canvas tents spme use on here. I take my hat off to them!
