That's an awesome tent. Something to consider when getting your first inflatable is the pack size and weight, because a) you can't split them into multiple bags b) the tubes make them bulky and c) they can weigh a lot: your Vango is 50kg. I'd get your dealer to show you one in its bag so you can be sure you can manage the pack.

There's a building consensus that Outwell have lost their way a bit this year and that Vango are leading the field. Certainly they seem to have the best after care. I'm not that clued up on Kampa or OR, but I'm sure there'll be a lot of advice about Zempire and Karsten coming your way . . . .

Hi, just wondering what's up with Outwell. I was considering the Vermont 7sa. I had looked at a few vangos but though the larger bedrooms and supposed "better quality" of the Outwells would pip them. Grateful for any advice.

lol...

all i can say is that neither Karsten nor Zempire offer tents of the size the op requires.

quality of materials and build over quantity/size of tent springs to mind with these 2 brands.

nothing wrong with Vango though, they offer a lot of tent for the money... but when pitched side by side - its easy to see where & how they do it.
Vango offers superb after sales care and a 3 year warranty... i agree with what you say about Outwell.

Vango's baby Illusion 500 pitched beside Zempire Air Force 1 ... was an interesting comparison..

Outwell's after sales service has always been unhelpful to the point of callousness - the sort of corporate arrogance that leads them to tell customers to buy all the accessories for their tent immediately because they won't be carrying them if they discontinue your chosen tent. No need to bother asking about spares then.

Their shell company, Oase Outdoors, has just gone into partnership with a private equity firm, so I can't see the corporate ethos improving.

That's generally been OK because the tents are good, although you do pay a bit of a premium. They're well made and very well designed, and if pitched properly are excellent.

This year they've scandalised the faithful by punting out the venerable polycotton standards - Bear Lake and Wolf Lake - in polyester. Never mind the weird grey colour way they introduced last year, this reminds me of when Mercedes Benz thought nobody would notice them abandoning build quality as a brand value at the end of the 'nineties.

Whilst Vango are doing some pretty useful stuff like the sky track / sky hook and refining their wet room / dry room / sleeping layouts, Outwell's big news for 2017 is, er, bedroom windows. Their corporate comms also subtly suggest they've taken their eye off the customer experience and onto their bottom line.

I hope I'm wrong because I do like their stuff.

Now I've got that off my chest, I'd say the Vermont SA looks like a proper Outwell tent (if you don't mind the grey).
