Since it's been so mild this weekend we decided yesterday to set up and "weather" our Cabanon Barbados which we bought last year.

It took no time at all to pitch and with it's simple design we didn't need instructions. We took the hose to it and the water beaded straight off all over with no leaks, I don't think it needed weathering at all but best to be safe.

The Barbados, although more compact than our Outwell Nevada, feels as though it will be just right for the three of us with just enough room to sleep, eat, and lounge about in. Felt cooler in the sun and more solid than the polyester.

Another plus is it fits in our small garden with most of the guys pegged - essential for us for occasions when we bring it home wet since we don't have enough indoor space to dry it. The fact it's so easy to pitch makes this prospect seem much less daunting too.

Taking down was so easy and quick too. Although the tent felt dry we're airing it indoors in various folded configurations to be 100% sure before packing away.

The bag it came with is very basic so I've ordered Isabella awning and pole bags. It's quite a heavy tent and having proper bags will make it easier to carry.    Also ordered some rain caps for the spikes at the top of the door poles. I'll get a footprint for the tent, and would like a carpet for inside too - recommendations appreciated!

Does anyone know if there should there be a rubber foot or something at the base of the central pole? - at the moment it's just a metal disk and I'm concerned it may dig in to the groundsheet.

All in all first impressions after our first pitch are great.   We're looking forward to our next camping holiday in it when I'll write a proper tent review on this site.

Its worth looking at Kampa for carpets. They do some good offerings under "picnic rugs". I found a near perfect size match for my Alaska under this description and it is as good as any tent carpet Ive had.Regarding the rubber foot..that old favourite..the pringles lid should work for you

You mean something like this?

I don't know if it should have one but they are easy enough to get and would be a good idea I think - this one is from Esvo.

Hi all, thanks for the tips! I've noticed in photos of the Barbados that there appears not to be anything over the metal foot. I'll may go down the pringles lid route (thanks Bryanmitch) but will take a look at the Esvo one (thanks Tricky tree) - looks good but depends on the diameter of the hollow in the middle.

Keeping fingers crossed the weather stays like this, can't wait to take the tent away with us.

The awning bags arrived and as advised on other threads the Large Isabella awning bag is a perfect fit for the main tent with room to spare. The Isabella pole bag is big enough for the poles and the inner tent. The tent is so much more manageable carry and pack away now.

Carpet is now sorted - 2 x Easycamp Boston 600 carpets in green which were on sale, for bedroom pod and living area, though they will need cutting down.

Pringles lid it will be, to protect the floor from the base of the main pole.

Got the outwell Ohio L footprint cheap which is the perfect width but will need cutting down to get the length right.

Given our investment this is the first year we decided to get camping insurance too for piece of mind from C&CC.

Pretty much sorted now! I'm hoping this tent will set us up for a few years.

Yep, you can't go far wrong with a Cabanon, we got our Biscaya 370 back in 2008, I did whince at the £699 price tag.

But we have had some wonderful holidays in it, over in the South of France, and the tent is still like new, absolutely fantastic quality it has to be said.

We adore our Cabanon Guadeloupe, perfect for two. The centre pole on it does have a rubber disk footing, but I don't know if that's an original fixture as we bought the tent 2nd hand.

Our last tent was the Barbados, it's a fab tent.
There were 3 of us and we managed fine for space.
We only sold it due to moving abroad for 3 years, didn't want to leave it in storage for that long.
I could put it up on my own, although it's pretty heavy.
I'd have no qualms in buying it again.

Are you going to buy the side panels or sun canopy?
We had the side panels, they give you quite a lot of extra room, although I prefer the look of the sun canopy, which came out after I'd already brought the side panels 😊

I've also taken delivery of a new Barbados and camped in it over the long weekend. It was brilliant and easily survived the wind and torrential rain in Wales. There were four of us (two little ones) and there was plenty of space.

The central pole should have a rubber foot on both ends. It may have come off in your pole bag, so worthwhile checking if you haven't already thrown the old bag out.

We found that a standard 4m x 4m builder's tarp with eyelets was a perfect footprint with the back corners folded under.

You should consider using rubber or shock cord pegging loops instead of pegging directly into the rubber loops on the SIG.

I know you've already bought a carpet, but for future reference for other members an Outwell Birdland 5E Carpet (2.6m x 3.2m) fits well in the "lounge". I've bought some sturdy woollen blankets (2.10m x 1.60m) for the sleeping pods.

The side panels seem to be really hard to find, as everywhere I look they are sold out. I'm waiting for an Obelink beige tarp to be delivered.

Hi, great to hear from other Barbados owners!. We had a great weekend over the Easter bank holiday in ours. The weekend had really variable weather but we felt so comfortable throughout.

Plenty space for the three of us with wide (but low) camp beds. We decided to use the bedroom pod and glad we did as the nights were chilly and it was noticeably warmer in the pod. In summer we may do without.   We used one of our side panels as a windbreak, and didn't put the other one up, although it's nice to have the option. I liked that we could open out 2/3 of the front of the tent for ventilation. It's amazing how spacious the tent is compared to how it looks from the outside.

Ours definitely didn't come with a rubber foot for the bottom of the pole so I'll check with the supplier.. if not we can improvise I'm sure.

Only query I have is how long should I have the guy lines? The length of the lines supplied is really long but I tied mine quite short (not trimmed them yet in case they should be longer).

Love this tent! Here's some pics...

Thanks for advice here, mcuch appreciated. We just pegged directly in to the tent loops - I hadn't heard of using shock cord loops - just googled and assume they are the same as "pegging elastics"?

We did the same thing, and then as I was randomly searching the forums here I noticed this thread:

Thank you yrret - just googled the Antigua and it looks a great tent - I think you're right to keep hold of it! We can't see ourselves selling the Barbados, I think that should be it now for tents, and we are hoping it should last years with care.   We're selling our outwell Nevada, and are keeping our small airbeam for one nighters.
