Yep, I think they are a good idea, especially if like us you are on the same campsite for a fortnight or more.
Having bird droppings or tree sap on your main canvas is best avoided.
I did consider trying to get hold of a knackered Biscaya 440 or similar and use the poles/hoops to construct a shelter, that can be pitched over the top of my Biscaya 370 although by now it would be a bit like closing the stable store, after the horse has bolted!
