Just back from a damp and dreary weekend in North Wales. One ray of sunshine in the gloom came on Saturday when I returned to site and immediately spotted a Relum Izmir which had appeared at the bottom of the site.
I made a point of wandering by with the kids and the owner was sat outside. It was a bit grubby but still a lovely tent.
I smiled at the owner and said "I've been on the lookout for an Izmir for years!"
Confused, the owner replied "Sorry, mate. What?"
"Oh,I just said I've been on the lookout for an Izmir for years. I'm a bit jealous."
The confused look deepened. "Sorry mate. I've got no idea what you're in about"
I explained that his tent was an Izmir. Some discussion ensued after he looked at the front, read the logo and told me that it was a Relum. We got there in the end.
"Oh. It was the first one I could get off Gumtree. Forty quid. It'll tide me over until I can get a proper tent"
We chatted a bit, and he was perfectly nice but it made me a bit sad that he didn't appreciate it more!
Thought I would share here with people who understand my pain...

They are lovely tents aren't they. I wonder what the "proper" tent is.
We had a guy came over and complimented our Alaska but spoilt it a bit by calling it a teepee.
I also heard someone calling my force ten a toy tent
We need to educate them.

I mean, I don't judge him for it. It's just sad that he's got a fantastic little tent that some people would adore, but from the way he was talking I reckon it will end up in a skip in the next 18 months when he gets a new poly tent :(

I recently sold a superb (stupid me...) Force 10 Mk4 to someone who told me he wanted a cheap strong tent for his Scouts......something that would take some knocking about.
True it would fit the bill, but sad. I wished then I hadn't sold it......it was a peach.
The Good Companions are going nowhere and are used!

We are all guilty of not appreciating what we have, be it camping or just life.

Don't get me wrong, a good synthetic tent can also be the dogs doodahs weight wise.
I still miss my Saunders.
Thing is you have to appreciate what you have, no matter the make, material or eycandiness.
