Hello everyone. Not been on here for a while ... Hoping everyone is well.
We have changed cars...from a large(ish) Mercedes to a Mini Countryman which means the Outwell Dakota 4 has to go.
So I'm looking for a 5 man, with sig that fits into a single bag. So far I like the Vango Calder 500 and the euro hike Rydal 500
What I want to know is what do you guys do to keep insects out if you haven't got the insect mesh screens over the entrances. It seems a lot of tents don't have the

That is one of my little annoyances. My tent has fly mesh over the sloping side door but none over the flat front door which is the door I always use. Hence the flies can get in but can't get out again because of the fly mesh on the other door
I admit to using fly spray which lots of people will tell you will ruin the tent waterproofing although it has never ruined the waterproofing on any of my tents over the past 15 years. I use it very sparingly and not directly onto the flysheet and don't get it on the outside of the tent where it may take off the silicon protection.
Every time I have used the tent I try to think of a way of fitting some netting to the 'D' shaped front door but have not managed to solve that problem yet.
This is what I'm thinking. I can get net curtain and adhesive velcro but not sure how that would look. I think I may have to pay the extra £100 and go for the vango. There's a voucher code for millet at the moment. Maybe worth while swallowing my losses
We used to have a Kampa Croyde 6 and we had the same problem with flies on a site one day noticed someone with the same tent that had fly mesh on front door when we chatted to them and had a look of how they attached it they had it on the inside of the front door with some good magnets on the top and one side of the door and a weights along the bottom on the fly mesh ,with the magnets you put one on the inside of the tent on the mesh and the other one on the outside fabric we found the magnets on Amazon we did try this and it works we used two packs of them

That sounds an excellent idea
I note that those on Amazon come all the way from China though. I have always been put off buying from abroad because of the length of delivery time (often a month or more) and what about import duties??
Be careful if you are looking at the vango tents too. For 2017 vango have stopped putting mesh on all the doors for the tents in the Exceed range and you have to pay more for the Exceed Plus range to get mesh.
I was all set to buy the Langley 400XL when I discovered this so then looked at paying even more money for the Kampa Hayling 6 only to find out that whereas the Vango has it on the main door but not the side door, the Kampa has it on the side door but not the main door!
I then had to up my budget again and to be honest it's now in the airbeam range so I thought I'd bite the bullet and get something spacious I could put up alone.
I've just ordered the new Sunncamp AirVolution Invadair 600 Deluxe which I'm assured has mesh screens on all the doors. It's an airbeam tent but has the beams on the outside which means no condensation inside at the bottom of the beams as well as more space inside. It comes with a roof protector and is 140 denier and has a porch/canopy on the front.
Seems to be selling for around £599 at the moment plus the footprint/carpet though if you know where to look you can get a little discount on that. I ended up paying £620 for the package
I'm really trying to downsize. We have been spoilt with our robust outwell but now have to fit it all in a Mini Countryman Not easy this camping malarkey 😩
