Hi folks ,I have been trawling the internet for any user feedback from the new outwell, dual protector tent roof covers than also incorporate a side canopy /sun shade. I have found no feedback at all, except reviews of the roof protectors which have the same proported effect on the tent roof (protection from bird lime, cooling down inner tent and darkening inner tent.)
I have the new drummond 7 and the roofs are very light and also the bedrooms are very light - previous vango maritsa had darkened bedrooms - (dont know why outwell couldnt implement that - seems they would rather sell you something extra to darken your tent)

Anyway I have ordered one for my tent as I want to try and keep it cooler inside when we are in france, usually blown out of the tent by 10am with the heat, plus I want the tent darker for better quality sleep. - plus the added bonus of some outside shade afforded by this canopy.
I am aware that this can be seen as a "gimmick" but I was so intrigued I thought I would "take one for the team" and buy one and give my review on its pros and cons.
Meanwhile if anyone else on the planet has already bought one -I would be pleased to hear your opinions on its viability, cooling effects etc. Best Regards to all.

Bought one last week but not used it yet. Bought it because last year we went camping and got hit by bird poo every day and it was a pain in the ass to clean off, at least now I just have to clean the roof protector. But looking forward to read your review later

I've been looking at the dual protectors but am a bit confused.

They have a silver side to reflect the heat and a darker side to retain it - all great. And of course the porch canopy too.

But - if you want to turn it over then surely the porch canopy would then be on the wrong side of the tent - in order for it to work surely either the tent has to have the porch in the middle to make it symmetrical or the canopy part would need to be removable and replaceable on the opposite side (unless the tent has two porches in the same place on opposite sides)?

What am I missing lol?

I have one and thought the very same but then it occured to me at home after usuing it last time black side up, you dont flip side to side but back to front and the canopy stays on the same side.

Just put the Dual protector up on a Nevada MP.
No instructions of attachment points. No "holes" for poles, if mounted as on my pictures you won't be able to attach it to the pole in the middle of the porch canopy.
It's setup to protect sleeping pods from morning sun.
I'm a bit worried if it will withstand 20m/s winds?

But then the canopy would be in the wrong place as the side porch isnt in the middle

well thanks for your submissions folks, mine has arrived devoid of any instructions, and as ballycfc said -It looks like you can turn it either side ,my side door is in the middle on one side only (outwell Drummond 7 tent).
I Opened it on the lawn last night for a quick look - my tents too big for my back garden. -bit worried as Javerhammar has said no holes for the poles ?? , thank you for the photos Javerhammar, but I am still not sure how to rig this thing up, as it shows on the only video I can find on the planet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khO8xKo8UdY at 1 minute 16 seconds into the video the camera finally pans out to show the canopy fully horizontally rigged with two end poles...going to have to unwrap mine again for closer inspection, to check for pole holes, cant see the sense in having a canopy if you cannot rig it out to give shade, its certainly advertised to give the impression of a full canopy but very thin on the detail - almost as if ther is something to Hide !
I think you have to be a member of MENSA to suss out how to rig this, because Outwell are certainly keeping it a secret ! will be back after I have checked for eylets for canopy poles. thanks agin for your submissions ...glad Im not the only one who is baffled by the lack of illustration of this product by Outwell.

I have checked my dual protector and it has two webbing tabs with guy ropes these are the housings for the twin poles needed to prop up the canopy - the protector does not come with poles and the tent didnt have any spare king poles either , it appears Outwell like to sell everything as extras , I have heard other comments on here about outwells marketing tricks, clever really - they sell a tent with a super bright roof- no darkened bedrooms so .. you end up buying a roof cover - unless you like waking up extra early
I have taken some photos of the tabs , schematic etc but cannot fathom out how to post them on this page ?

There's a description of how to publish pictures here - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=5&TopicID=67188

After one day with this dual protector I'm amazed of how big impact it has on inside temperature. Before it was unbearable inside when the sky was clear, 17 degrees Celsius and all doors open (mesh closed). Now with this thing on it's really comfortable inside, must be at least 8-10 degrees difference with the same outside temp and less wind.
Really happy with it for the moment :)

About the rigging - I'm sure I rigged it wrong.. I tossed it over the roof and attached it where I could. I think the hooks went into the storm guys tabs on each side. Thought it would be attached to the poles but couldn't get it to fit.

this is where you thread your canopy poles through - where my finger is - then pop a couple of other guy rope loops over the top of the pole and tension out with pegs. thanks for the link for posting photos too . glad to hear the tempreture is much cooler with the protector in place

I'm new to this forum. I bought an Outweel Nevada MP 2017 tent this September but I did not have the opportunity to try it out. I'm interested to buy the dual protector for it but I kindly ask you for more information. Example the dimension of the porch and if it is really necessary in order to avoid the sunrays...
Thank you in advance for your answer
