Really wondering what has happened regarding the quality of Coleman tents.

Last year I purchased a Coleman Cook 4 and it was faulty (one of the webbing tabs that hold the sleeping compartment to the main tent wasn't attached to the groundsheet - it just hadn't been sewn in). I ended up having to get it repaired. I put it down to bad luck and didn't hesitate to recommend Coleman when a relative was looking for a tent this year.

Now regretting having made that recommendation as they recently ordered a Coleman Rocky Mountain 5 and it had a bad scratch on the outside of the tent. The scratch was so deep that light was visible through the blackout coating on the inside. It also had a hole in the bag where one of the seams hadn't been sewn properly. They sent this faulty tent back and received a replacement, but that was also faulty. This time there were needle holes in the roof and various stains. One of these looked like an ink stain from a pen whilst the others looked like yellow and green stains (covering most of the grey panel).

You can accept that occasionally a dud product may slip through the QA process, but having three faults in as many tents suggests that they don't have a QA process!

Interested to hear whether others have had similar experiences.

I have had two Coleman tents in the past and found them to be generally excellent but one of them, an ex demonstration model, did have a problem with zips breaking and also one of the straps holding the inner tent to the roof broke. I put that down to it being abused during display and still feel it was the best tent I ever had.

However, on the second tent one of the straps holding the front door up when rolled up broke which I didn't think too much of at the time. I have always put them slightly better or on a par with Outwell but having read your post perhaps they weren't really as good as I thought - lol.
