Hi all,

We're currently pitched up in Perranporth in cornwall and we've had some rough winds so far, with up to 50 miles expected on sunday.. so we might need to cut the trip short and leave Saturday :( as not sure our tent would stand up to those wind speeds.. getting 25 mph now and tent is rocking and rolling (Coles Octagon 8)

We tried putting up our event shelter, but just way to windy, so just managed to put up the tent and some windbreakers... the sun is out, just lots of blistering wind :)

Looking for a future new tent, that can withstand some autumn weather better, any suggestions? Needs to be a large tent that I can stand up in (6ft6)

Cheers

Hello KDowner.

If not already done, are you able to 'Double Guy' the tent?
That will (hopefully) reduce the risk of taking off.

Have you sited the tent 'Bum to the wind' or 'silly side on' ?

Don't wish to worry you, but STRONGER winds and rain from the North West, are forecast for Friday night and Saturday.

Good luck anyway.

Regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.
I'm not destitute, I'm just poor.

Hi,

Most of the tent is double up in lines.. but had to use most of my spare lines for the windbreakers..

But I have added double pegs everywhere.. So hopefully that will help..

The wind is coming from behind us, but as it's pretty much a square tent, doesn't really make much difference.

But cheers for the suggestions mate

Could you park the car in a way to shield from the wind
I've looked at the cortez 8 and I'm sure it would struggle to cope in any wind over 30 mph as it is pretty much vertical sided tent hope everything goes OK

Yes thanks.. we did end up leaving a day early as winded we're going from 25mph to 50mph and I was worried that the tent wouldn't cope..

But I was pretty amazed that after the last night with the worst wind, only 1 windbreaker fell over but didn't break.. and the tent survived it well..

Already looking forward for the next trip :)

Better safe than sorry. The strongest wind I have been in was forecast as 28 mph. It could have been stronger in reality but it nearly laid my little dome tent flat. I got away without any damage but I wouldn't want to risk stronger winds than that in any tent.

Gosh glad you survived, our Kampa Croyde air tent has withstood 45 -50 mph gusts in Norfolk, we had to move our car to the back of the tent, one of the beams did bend inwards but popped straight back again afterwards, it's very scary isn't it.

I think you were wise to pack up whilst you were ahead especially with another storm approaching.
