Hi,

So we have had our 2nd hand montana 6p with extension for this summer and its served us very well. Started to plan for next year and considering picking up an air tent to replace our Monty 6p. We are family of 4 (11 and 9 year old) and love the space the Monty 6p provides but not so keen on the extension where I like to do the cooking and sitting out when its raining. I'm also looking at air tent so when the weather not great I can get pitched up quickly and helps when doing short weekend breaks locally.

Planning to go further south into hotter weather next summer (france etc) and looking for recommendation on a tent that would give us similar internal space but a nice built in extension to house cooker, cooler box and where we can sit in to have dinner if its raining. (does'nt have to have built in ground sheet in this area). Also considering if a polycotten tent would be better suited.

Considering the following air tents

Vango illusion Air 800XL or 500XL (considering polycotten version as well)
Vango Rivendale Air 800XL or 500XL
Vango Maritsa 600XL Air

What are people thoughts on the above?

I'm also open to suggestions of other makes and older models that may be available on ebay.

Thanks in advance.

AJ

Hi

We've just bought the Maritsa 600 XL air. Feels very big compared to our old Outwell Magic and our two kids now have their own bedroom area. It's a big old beast though - 50kg and as it was filthy weather last weekend, it's proving to be an effort to get it dry before packing it away for the winter.

Front porch area is fine for indoor dining but bear in mind that it narrows so you may find with older children (mine are 6 and 8) that a wider front (the Illusion?) may be more suited for your needs.

Great quality tent though - nice thoughtful touches and seems pretty robust.

Thanks for your reply. I am also looking at the illusion as you suggested but i'm concerned about the overall space it takes in the car and bedroom sizes. We are near limit already with monty tent, extension and poles so don't want to go much bigger. Also, i do like the large size bedrooms in Monty and see that the maritsa is slightly bigger that the illusion.

Illusion 800XL pack size: 78x50x53cm
Maritsa 600Xl pack size: 78x48x48cm

Illusion 800XL main bedroom: 275x210. Height: 205cm
Maritsa 600Xl main bedroom: 280x215. Height: 215cm

The porch just needs to be for cooking and storing food etc. We generally eat outside or happy to bring in the dining table inside the main tent need be.

Any thoughts?
