Yes, maybe I am crazy but I'm thinking of moving out of my bedroom and into a tent (for various reasons, but mostly because I just love sleeping in a tent!)
I've been looking at Lotus Belle tents (as they claim to be way more durable than others) as well as canvascamp.co.uk (who claim to have 4-season tents that can last 15 years with good treatment).
Any other places I should be looking or things I should be considering?
I'm in the Canary Islands so need to think about UV exposure (though I can add shading), and we do have a rainy season, so waterproof is a must.
If I can buy secondhand, I'm open to saving a few bob.
Thanks for any insights you have (including threads where this may already have been discussed - I couldn't find any.)

Have a look at this list of threads in which tinhouse69 has participated, many of which are about long-term living in a tent.

(Start at the third from last and then work through list upwards, of course!)

your biggest consideration is the strength / intensity of the uv rays as your not far from the equator there.
that will be the killer of your tent way more than storms / winds there.

definitely go with cotton and if you can find a cotton tarp big enough to shade the roof and most of the sides of the tent from direct sunlight then that will help prolong the life of your tent.

you ll already know - but forget any polyester ( plastic ) tents - they be destroyed within 1 summer of exposure to the canary island sun.

the premium French tent maker Cabanon do make tents suitable for permanent installation / all year round use - expect prices similar to a luxury caravan though - google the Cabanon Classic Bois 400 for a look.

What about second hand ex army tents, on ebay they pop up , massively strong and heavy, and accordingly not cheap, but serious kit especially some that are "yurt" shaped?

Obviously canvas.....

Thanks Caligula. After much research - and thanks to an opportunity that opened up - we are now looking at yurts.
