Hi
We have had a wolflake 7 for some years and love it . Spacious , dry and bombproof.

However it is heavy and setting up is a nightmare.

I have decided to replace it with an air tent.

I was wondering what recommendations there are for a 3 bedroom polycotton air tent.

We've had a wolf lake 7 since it was first released and struggled to find.something we liked better. However today we just ordered the new outwell greycliff at the camping and caravanning show. It's brand new for 2018 and is the first thing we've seen that we thought was a worthwhile upgrade.
You may struggle to find suppliers as outwell are quite restrictive on who it's being sold through. We can't wait to get it in March though

Just be warned any polycotton air tent is likely to be heavier than the wl7. Greycliff is 47kg just for main section as air pole weight is attached to the outer unlike poles being separated on wl7.

I also saw the Greycliff at the show & it’s a beast of a tent! I think Outwell have done well this year to launch a 7 berth polycotton air tent.
As an alternative, last year we bought the Outwell Phoenix 7, a hybrid of sorts. It has 3 airbeams & two steel poles. The beauty of this tent, that the Greycliff can’t offer, is that you can just pitch the main tent without needing to attach the front porch. Easier for a quick weekend camp, and only one of the steel poles needed in this setup.

Not really concerned about the bag weight it's the hoof up when poles are in I hate.

Greycliffe looks great but 3k with a carpet is a lot for a tent even for Outwell

Will check out the Phoenix quit like the idea of 2 section. Thinking if you get to sight you can just do the air bit quickly
Then do the rest at your le suite the next day

Show price was £2239 with insulated carpet and footprint.

Greycliff is also a lot longer than WL7 so if you go to sites that are concerned about dimensions this might cause issues. Wl7 was 6.4m long the Greycliff is a beast at 7.85m long

An air tent certainly makes the “hoof up” much easier, in fact it becomes a doddle.

Also be aware that as the beams are part of the tent outer it all comes in one bag, and some of them are massive. Our Outwell air tent takes a third of our boot space in a Ford Galaxy - I almost handed the tent back when I collected it and saw the bag size.

Rather than start the search for a tent all over again we have got a roofbox instead so we can take some other gear and not just the tent!!

Hi thanks guys

I have brendurup trailer 1205 and a big estate so will be ok .

One question I have for those who have seen it in the flesh.

The appearance of the main ground sheet looks very flimsy compared to the wolf lake . A bit like a vango polyester one.

What did you think.

Re groundsheet yes they are a lot lighter weight than the old wolf lake rubber like groundsheets. They are sewn in now so it's a weight and cost saving excercise. Similar to tarp weight now rather than heavy weight rubber. Will be interesting to see how it holds up but I went for the insulated carpet to offset this somewhat

The greycliff also comprises of two parts although they can be left zipped together if you can manhandle the pack weight. The bedroom / lounge area and a separate zipped on front awning area. Each has separate inflation points.

However unlike phoenix you can't use greycliff without the front awning being attached. However the extra time to inflate front section is pretty negligable I would anticipate. I'm hoping for under 15 minutes from bag to being guyed and fully pegged. The bulk of my setup time in wl7 was always the extra interior stuff (about 60 mins) as wl7 only really takes 30 mins to erect and guy anyway.

I had been looking at the Karsten before buying Greycliff but for equivalent sleeping and living space it would be about £5.5k. Also looked at the Cabanon Chamonix trailer tent and was quite taken with that but again expensive about £8k.

does the large Outwell greycliffe tent use larger diameter beams to support the weight of the vast polycotton flysheet compared to their smaller polycotton air tents?

Vango use 13cm diameter " super-beams " for all their polycotton tents and a few of the 420Denier polyester tents - the thinner beams would likely collapse especially when the flysheet gets wet and can easily double in weight.

Karsten tents are much smaller and use 55psi airbeams compared to the Vango / Outwell 7psi beams and so the smaller pure cotton Karsten tents are stable even when wet due to the pyramid cross brance design and they can use really quite thin / small airbeams at high pressure. they dont offer anywhere near the space of a vango illusion or an outwell greycliffe though.

We've been using the WL7 (brilliant tent) for years and like Justin Parker have pre-ordered the Outwell Greycliff, its an absolute beast of a tent, the living spaces are huge! We also explored the karstens like you Justin, and met James & Suzie at a karsten display event a few weeks ago and did come to the same conclusions. The tents are a much higher quality than any others on the market, unfortunately the current setups cant offer the same space as the really large family tunnel tents without configuring with numerous pods and extension awnings, this makes the costs high but i'd imagine also increses the pitching time considerably.

Going back to the greycliff, what date is everyone getting back from their uk suppliers?

We've been told 16/04/18 for ours.

Also does anyone know if outwell will manufacture the dual protectors for the greycliff? Are they a worthwhile addition?
