Hi All

I already have a tent (Vango Edoras Airbeam) for weekends/weeks away, however I would like to do the West Highland Way backpacking so looking for a 2 man tent (just me and the dog going but i've heard 2 man tents are more like 1 man tents with room for gear).
I have had a look and it seems the vango banshee 200 is popular however I'm not sure if 2.5ish kg would be too heavy for me...budget is £150-200, the lighter the better but I want it to be as waterproof as possible due to scottish weather and able to last a few long distance hikes as hoping to do more in the future.
I came across this one but not sure if better than the banshee?

Coleman cobra 2 weighs less than a banshee and comes in at under £100.

If you are willing to go £30 quid over budget then the Force 10 helium UL weighs in at 1.4kg helium This is the one I would take solo.

THere is a used Vango Apex 200 backpacking tent which weighs less than 2 kg on Ebay at present. Its an ideal lightweight tent with sit up height, big door on the front. Can be erected in minutes.
I have one and would recommend it.

Berghaus Peak 3.2 backpacking tunnel tent going for £87.20 on the Millets website right now. Alloy poles, weighs less than 2.5kg, looks like a bargain.

I've no experience of these tents, but I bought a similar aluminium poled tunnel tent from Millets several years ago (StormShield Ultralite); it turned out to be a little gem of a tent, and it is just the right size for one man backpacking.


EDIT - or they do the Peak 3.2 'Pro' version; a little lighter, for £127.20.

I would also take a look at the Wild Country Hoolie 2.

Wild Country make good tents - I have a 3 person Trisar made by them dating from 1991; an excellent 2 man tent but perhaps a little heavy for solo backpacking. The Hoolie 2 is lighter.

Whatever tent you buy, make sure that it has decent mosquito netting to keep the midges out! A full net door to the inner is desirable.
