Hi,
A camping newbie here apart from the odd drunken teenage night then waking up soaked at the beach using the tent as a blanket to keep us all warm... I have no real experience.
I am looking for advice/guidance on what might be a good tent/investment for up to £300 give or take ££.
We are a father and mother with a 2 year old going to a children's festival here in Scotland by some woods.
We're not looking for something as a one-off - perhaps something we can turn into a hobby with a view to up grading later on. Personally I'd like separate berths. For our toddler - is a specific blackout tent advisable or are most dark enough anyway?
Would it be daft to buy from the likes of Sports Direct or do you get what you pay for?
We want something waterproof that will do for summer camping trips
Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
I bought a Coleman Mosedale 5 earlier this year; black out bedroom with divider, sewn in groundsheet, easy to pitch with only 3 hoops and the inner pre-attached, and you get a lot of tent for your money.
However, I did have an issue with the poles; read my review before considering this tent -
There are other similar tunnel tents of similar design and size; the Vango Winslow 5 was another that we considered.
I would advise going for a 5 man with a bedroom divider; the bedroom will split 3:2 giving plenty of room for 2 in the big 'half' and a private space for your child in the smaller section. And do make sure that the tent has full mosquito netting.
Agree with above, try and get to see some displays too, 2nd hand is a good option as long as it had been looked after, make sure you can stand up in it too, or bad back syndrome will spoil your holiday.
As an experienced camper I think, with your budget, i'd be inclined to look for a good quality 2nd hand tent, although, that said, there are some good deals to be had.
Buying from a reputable company gives you the peace of mind of great customer service such as immediate replacements if their is a fault - with sports direct, its a 'sold as seen' situation with little comeback...
Camping with a toddler... personally, i'd go for sewn in groundsheet (To reduce any chances of early morning escapes!)
