a fishing brolly would work too and be better waterproofing
to be honest why not just return the tent? and then buy something more suitable for the uk weather

It's Argos, I'm sure you'd have no problem taking it back for a refund?
Then, perhaps consider buying a tent, suitable for UK camping, from a reputable camping equipment specialist? A good one should be able to advise you further, before investing in such a purchase, subject to your needs, desires, and expectations.
Camping is what you make it... absolutely exhilarating, totally relaxing, downright miserable, a complete disaster, etc, etc...
Wacky, I know, but just a thought!

The fact that it is only 1200mm does not necessarily mean that it will leak.
Tents usually leak through the seams and zips, not through the actual material.

Agree with Bernie - your tent is far more likely to fail in other ways rather than through the fabric itself.
It'll be made with cheap poles - which can snap in wind, the stitching will be cheap like the fabric, meaning it's important no to overtighten the guy ropes as you'll get little seam holes.
Have looked it up - it's a single skin so I wouldnt put a rubberised cover over it as the condensation will drip on your head and/or your bags will get damp.
I wouldnt say it's worth fabsiling a new tent - the waterproofing is on the inside all the fabsil does is make nice shiny rain water beads but can affect breathability - we had our tent 5 years before proofing it.
One positive thing you can do is buy a cheap tarp 2 x 3 metre as your groundsheet might be prone to leakage upwards, make sure you fold it into the underside of the tent so that any exterior run down isnt routed inwards.
A cheap tent failing early on can really put you off camping for life.......
BUT that's not to say you've wasted your money!!
So far as I can tell your tent was £25, which is a bargain if you can get a couple of weekends out of it - I hope your first weekend or two away go well enough that you'll be motivated to buy a better tent and open up a whole new world of great trips! (and cost.....)
Looking on cotswold or go outdoors I'd say £125 buys a decent 4 man tent as maybe your next step......and at £200 in the sale you get a good good one. Keep your argos one for now I would!
