Loan1983 mentioned a Düsseldorf show earlier back, not sure if they are a German repairer talking about German spec tents? Might explain the confusion about what's available here in the UK and if their manner is coming across wrong it may be lost in translation if English is not their first language?
Vango and Outwell make such a broad range of family tents at different price points, out of different materials, that it would be impossible to say one is better than the other overall. They are both mainstream volume manufacturers making okay tents at (mostly) okay prices. Neither of them make premium tents so there are bound to be the odd duff one that slipped through the quality control coming out of the factory in China.
Would be better to buy from a trusted dealer who will sort you out if there is a problem rather than get too hung up on which brand is better
