Ah ah....that's what I thought about the stove in a nylon type tent but,
Nylon Hot Tent
I have just sent an email regarding a Fairbanks, but I appreciate your offer of the Gelert...I may well take you up on it.
I did read on this site and the others about your thoughts on the tent so thank you.
the Gelert in particular is a bargain.

He had one (Helsport) on show in the shop with a stove running right up through the middle and through the aperture that is designed for a stove pipe to exit.
Maybe my misunderstanding but are you saying a polycotton (nylon) is not great with a stove?

Polycotton is not nylon, but a mixture of cotton and polyesters usually 65% cotton and 35% polyester, and then with differing weave weights being available. (nuts really as polycotton really defines as "many cottons") Stoves with appropriate flashing is used in many, including some of the bells we've mentioned, also Safir tipis are often used with stoves. Some tents vary the ratio of cotton to polyester, such as 10T (Spreen) tents.
I have seen flues in nylon/polyester tents but stray sparks and the thing is ruined, built in flue or no.
Just sit next to an open fire with polyester hiking trousers on and see! Mind you, many tents are now treated with a flame retardant irrespective of cloth
Some tents are pure cotton of various weights, Pukka bell tents are pure cotton for example, and have chimney flue holes built in.
The Robens is a polycotton at 65/35%, my Blacks Solace bell also but with a far heavier cloth, whereas my lavvu -very stovable but one man- is pure cotton as are various B of G I have.
The Gelert is like the 10T, with a higher polyester content.

Yes the material of the Helsport has a flame retardant procedure applied to it....but as you say I don't think I would sleep easy in the setup.
I now only own 100% canvas and Polycotton tents.
Seems that your Canoe is a great way to transport the kit....no doubt giving you access to other places not availble on foot or vehicle.

Gone with the Robens.
Will post up on how we get on one we get the stove jack sorted. Stove works a treat.
My better half made a damper for the stove which makes a huge difference.
