I�m struggling between a Vango Helvellyn 200 and a F10 Makalu 2. My main issue is wind resistance. Is the ripstop, silicone coated nylon going to stand up to heavy wind as well as the polyester tent? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum papadelta, my back packing tent is a Terranova Laser Lite, just 1.1kg and that stood up to the wind fine in the lakes.

Only pitched 5 nights before I moved on to the Hilleberg Nallo 2 GT, so that I had somewhere to store my touring bicycle, the Hilleberg is a great performer also.

If you are interested I am letting the Laser Lite with specific footprint go for £150, it's in mint condition with original Carbon Fibre pegs, although it also comes with alloy pegs for regular use.

From experience and talking to others nylon tents can begin to sag when they are battered with wind and rain. My advice is to stick with poly.

Of the two I would go for the makalu. Yes, sil nylon can sag in the wet but that isn't such an issue on a semi geodesic and you should be checking guys etc anyway. Oz for oz, silnylon is stronger than pu coated polyester and is the lightweight option.

Personally, in bad weather the "flap" of a nylon gets right on my ****, especially in larger family tents and adjusting guy ropes does very little depending on wind direction etc.

On such smaller tents however, there is little in it.

Nylon of course dries quicker/easier which can be a bonus on your travels as less water equals less weight.

Thanks for all your advice. I ended up opting for the Helvellyn, mainly because the extra £200 to save 200g didn't really seem worth it.
