Hi all, still fairly new to camping. We’re taking our tent to the east coast next week and was considering our fluctuating weather, and the need for a fan and / or heater. Argos do little ones for £15-£35 that can provide both heat or cool air, but may trip the electric according to some reviews! Can anyone recommend a fan heater that will be fit for purpose please?

We use a quest ceramic heater, bought from go outdoors. It has a heat setting and also a cool air fan setting for the warmer months.

Hi, the fan only setting will have almost no effect in a hot tent, only solution is to open some doors and let the heat out, preferably those with mesh screens to keep out the flies depending where you are. A cross breeze from 2 open doors is ideal.

Ceramic heaters are preferred as elements run at a cooler temperature though produce the same total heat.

1500w is approx 6A so has less risk of overloading the electrics if you end up on a site with 6A limit. Though you could always use the lower heat setting on a bigger heater.

We have a large 6 man tent and 1500w was plenty for summer camping. We used the 800w setting a lot of the time.

Make sure is has a tip over cut out.

We have a halogen low watt heater for heating. We don't use anything to cool the rent. Luckily it is canvas which helps as does good ventilation.

Check with the site what ampage their hook ups are. Then look for the silver label on the fan heater you are thinking of getting and it should say its maximum wattage on it, and go from there. Most sites seem to be 10amp, but we have been to some as high as 16amp. Just remember its the total wattage of everything you have running at the same time that will determine if it trips. To be on the safe side,if we are on a site with 10amp hook up, we always try to stay under 2000watt TOTAL output from whatever we have running at the same time.That way it gives you a bit of leeway should you accidentally go over 2000watt by a bit extra before realising you have.


Fast boiling electric kettles seem to be the main culprits IMO as some of them can be as high as 3000watt. and that will defo trip a 10amp EHU.

We have a canvas tent and the cool fan setting works a treat!
