If you have one, what are the drawbacks? I am thinking about size, weight and possible leaks/slow deflation.

Hi Beenie,

We have 2 air tents; both Vangos. A 2016 Edoras 500XL and a 2018 Vango Capri 400XL.

Being newer air tents with improved tube and valve technology we have had no problems with leaking or deflating tubes. Both tents stay fully inflated without any need to 'top up' the air (with the Edoras being a tent we use for our main 2 week holiday); nor have we had problems with the valves.

The Edoras did have a faulty front tube from new which I replaced with reasonable ease.

As far as weight is concerned then clearly air tents are relatively big and bulky, especially if compared with a tent with fibre glass poles, but as someone who has owned everything from cotton steel framed Frame Tents, through fibre glassed poled polyester tents to polyester steel poled tents, I can honestly say that the pack size of an airtent is not so bad that I would call it a disadvantage or draw back.

I do like the ease of pitching and the rigidity of the tent, even in high winds.

A also like the fact that there are a lot less arguments with my OH when pitching an airtent!

Overall I would recommend them.

We bit the bullet this year and went from steel poles to air beam, not finding it much quicker to put up but it's much much easier.... it feels even sturdier than the steel poled which we were amazed about.. weighs the same but it's all in one bag rather than two so needs both of us to carry it!

We love it

which air tent did you get debs? We are looking at the Outwell Broadlands 6A which the bumf says is 23kg

I bought a Kampa Studland 8 Classic Air last year and love the space and comfort, the opening tops to the windows are great.

The only downside for me is the weight of it, taking it up the stairs after being used to store it in spare bedroom (camping store). I handle it both into and out of storage and on campsite solo.

we got a kampa croyde 6... I think it's 36.5kg but the steel poles version was about the same just in two bags rather than one

Our big family tent is 14.5kg & getting long in tooth so we tried a Robens Kiowa with inner & carpet last summer. 33kg all in. After a few trips with it up & down stairs, drying etc it was dubbed the Widow Maker & sold.   We've treated our 14.5kg tent to some new pole sections & it'll get a coating & it's going to have to last!
