But I am wanting to buy an a tent and the current favourite is 8.05m long, the runner up is 8.40m. will I come into any difficulty with such a large tent fitting on a pitch or will I be alright?
Thanks for the advice,
Ginger

I suppose it depends on the campsites you use really. I have been going to my favourite campsite in Cornwall for 29 years now and never had a problem. This year however, someone pitched an Airgo Horizon 6 next to my Trout Lake 4 and as we were pitched on a bend in the field, our guy lines did overlap. This was due to the length of the Airgo being 7.5 metres. It didn`t affect me but it restricted access to the childrens playing field. The campsite owner did apologise as he had no idea just how big the tent was.
Depends on where you're going. A few I go to can't take tents more than 7 metres and they are strict about it. I've not had a problem anywhere with 7 meters or below yet though.
Most the camp sites have what they'll take on their website so check a few you go to?
------------- Wynnster Eagle 6 tent also but never used as too big for most sites we've been too and were too happy with our other tent.
Plus a SunnCamp Breton 500 Deluxe for shorter camping trips which we bought at the end of 2019 but have yet to use it due to lockdown!
Just to add, I've seen a few larger tents struggle and have to put guy lines in wrong places. There was one next to me a couple of weeks ago and they were okay as they were on the row where the kids park started so put their guylines in the park area but would have struggled anywhere else on site as you can't put them into concrete. Management normally have issues due to the fire safety regs there.
I have a larger tent but have never ended up using it as didn't appear would fit where I was going so is just sitting there!!
If it's you're only tent, I would get a shorter one or one with option of added canopy/section instead as it might limit where you can camp - unless you have somewhere regular already you can check

I have quite recently purchased a tent which is supposed to be 7.5 metres long and 4.5 metres wide according to the sales blurb although I haven't measured it. See my profile.
I have used it twice on the same campsite and they had no problem with it. I mentioned the size to another campsite I was thinking of using and they were happy to take the tent but wanted an extra £5 a night because it was over their limit of 7 metres. Not quite sure of the logic in that if it fits on their pitches but the next time I erect it I will measure it just in case in reality it is no longer than 7 metres
Another campsite, and one I may be going to as soon as the kids are back at school, are quite happy with the size. In fact there are two cars as well because I camp with a mate who uses his own car.
So, it seems many campsites don't have a problem with tent sizes but a few do, and it may well be more to do with creaming off an extra fiver than pitch sizes.
So...the usual advice...phone the campsite to ask and if they won't take the tent or want extra money then try somewhere else.
Ours is 7.5m, never refused. One site charges for large tent at >16m2 but has facilities we want so no issue for us.
One site was very tight, had crossed guys at the rear with the next tent and had front guys at steep angle to get the car on the pitch. Personally I would have rather been refused. Site fine other than pitch size though.
I now look for sites that advertise larger pitches. 8x8m is a squeeze, but usually there is a lot more space.
Big tunnel tents need a lot of space, often not allowed for when some sites were set up hence not all pitches are suitable. There are no shortage of sites which can accomodate big tents and most online bookings ask for size before they confirm the booking to make sure you get a suitable pitch size.
Book early to have the best choice, and options if you can get the first choice.
