Hi folks
I’m new to the site and a born again camper
We are a family of four campers two are teenage girls
We muddled through this year with a trespass 5 berth and my fishing bivvi for the girls
Now we are hooked we want to upgrade to a bigger family tent, the plan being the grown ups get the big tent and the girls have their own pup tents
The pup tents are sorted out so it’s just the big tent to go.
I’ve been following a kampa Croyde 6 on eBay as this will give us a nice big family space
Are there any better ones I should be looking for??
Budget is limited to about £200

Hi Carlashaun, big welcome to the forum, and here is my totally biased advice, hopefully some more balanced opinions will be along later.

There is a very nice Cabanon Biscaya 440 (All Season Polyester 220 g/m2) on eBay at the moment, and I also noticed an even nicer Cabanon Chamonix (Cotton 280 g/m2) which I think has since sold.

We got our Cabanon Biscaya 370 Cotton back in 2008, and almost every year since then it has done a fortnight in the South east of France during July, and ten years on it is still in as new condition, although some of the rubbers are starting to show there age, but they are designed for easy replacement.
The Cotton canvas, is still pristine, and amazes me to this day day, each time we pitch it.

I would say a Cabanon makes a good used purchase, the tents are so over engineered that they show very little wear, years on from new.

If this is for Europe, (and particularly France, from my limited experience), this sounds a fantastic plan.
However, if it's for the UK, just be aware that most (not all) campsites will be looking to cash in when you turn up with 3 individual tents, however small 2 of them may be!

-------------
2024: 38 nights thus far...
2023: 47 nights
2022: 40 nights
2021: 30 nights
2020: Just 24 nights
2019: A personal best 50 nights
2018: Just the 30 nights
2017: 34 nights
2016: 32 nights
2015: 38 nights
2014: 34 nights
2013: 36 nights
From July 2012: 23 nights

It is for the uk at the moment
The sites we have been to have charged a nominal fee for the pup tents but it’s worth every penny lol

I did look at the Cabanons but pack size would be an issue I think and I’ve been told a sig is a must due to spiders 😂
We are off to look at a kampa Oxwich with porch and carpet tonight
Fingers crossed

Yep I agree on the SiG, although I prefer a ZiG.

The Cabanon Chamonix is a SiG, whilst the Biscaya is a ZiG.

But your wright at about pack size, our Cotton Biscaya 370 with poles is a fair old lump.

We are now the proud owners of the Oxwich
It’s first pitching will be in the back garden tomorrow and our daughters want to sleep in it “to make sure it’s all fine” lol
Thanks for your help and input folks
